‘Assault with weapons’ call west of The Junction

(WSB photo by Christopher Boffoli)

Lots of questions about the police and fire response for an “assault with weapons” call in the 4500 block of 48th SW, near Ercolini Park. We have just talked to responders at the scene, and they tell us a person died by suicide inside a home.

As we always mention in coverage of suicide: If you or someone you know is contemplating self-harm, the Crisis Clinic‘s 24-hour hotline is 206-461-3222.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry-my condolences to the family.  Heard all the sirens from the nearby school park.

Is it the house that’s being built or the one where the dads just played their band this week?

I don’t know and we don’t publish exact addresses. You can check the real-time 911 log, though as we often point out, it does not always feature the incident address but rather the address from which something was called in.

    Sad

I’m so sorry to all those involved. I have 3 in my family. Hold each other close.

Thanks. Either way, I’m so sorry and if this family needs anything, even a food train, please let the blog know. So devastating.

It is so sad. It is neither of these houses though I don’t want to say which house to protect privacy. Very tragic.

alki resident – i can confirm 100% that’s it’s neither of those houses. Incredibly sad regardless.

If you have concerns about a friend or family member please don’t hesitate to talk with them. Often there is nothing we can do to stop someone if/when they decide to take their own life but you never know, talking with them may be helpful.  If they aren’t on meds, maybe offer to go with them to the doctor or if they are,  ask if they are taking them.  I think we all stay too quiet, its uncomfortable for us so we tell ourselves its “none of our business”.

Even regular phone calls-something many people don’t do anymore.  I was concerned about a friend recently so I made a point of calling several times a week just to say hi, be friendly, supportive whatever was needed. To let him know he wasn’t alone. I like to think it helped.

Thank you. I’m just so sad after your block was entertained and happy and now completely somber. Our community is willing to help in any way if the family wants to reach out.

WSB .. your conclusion is in inconclusive. That’s my mom . And you could wait at least wait 48hrs to post something correct

I heard the sirens a couple of blocks away and am stunned this morning to learn what they were about.  We are so saddened by this tragedy and hope the family knows that our thoughts and prayers are with them in this very difficult time.  This community stands with you and is here to help in any way possible.

“I have 3 in my family” and that explains or justifies what?  Sounds like this has become all about you.

  • Genesee resident June 27, 2017 (12:11 pm)

Question Authority–is justme’s comment offensive?  I don’t understand. This is a sad event and I took it as a reminder to hold your family, friends and neighbors close.  What did I miss?

  • Sethmama June 27, 2017 (12:21 pm)

Don’t be like that over an innocent remark

  • Neighbor June 27, 2017 (12:37 pm)

Omg- seriously?! Question authority… belittling ANYONE’S approach trying to deal with tragedy in their own way makes me sick.  Stay classy and be helpful. Last thing anyone in our community (or any) needs is to not feel safe expressing  vulnerability in times of crisis.

Thank you.  As a child I witnessed  several suicide attempts by a family member, and I also lost a close friend to suicide.  Compassion is what is needed.  My thoughts are with the family right now.

This is heartbreaking. I know this person and she was known and cared for by many in our community.

I am surprised by the swiftness in calling this suicide. I understand WSB is reporting what SPD told them but sometimes these things are not what they initially seem. I don’t know what happened. In any case this is a terrible tragedy. Hank, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom. Praying for you and your brothers and sister. God speed.

    • WSB June 29, 2017 (9:18 am)

I am very sorry for everyone’s loss. Because of the concerns raised in comments here, I do want to say that we kept checking for the Medical Examiner’s ruling; it was made public in yesterday afternoon’s daily media release, and that was, that the woman who died was a victim of suicide. – TR

      • Cara Starnes June 29, 2017 (11:57 am)

Thank you for following up, Tracy. Heartbreaking. Thank you also for publishing the Crisis line information.

  • Cara June 27, 2017 (4:51 pm)

Also, I’m pretty sure “justme” was sharing that they’ve had 3 suicides in their family. That’s how I read it. If that’s the case, I am sorry for your heartbreaking loses.

  • RS June 27, 2017 (6:47 pm)

I can’t say we were close, but we were neighbors, and my heart breaks for her kids. May she rest in peace.

Sorry, comment time is over.
