WEST SEATTLE REPAVING: Open houses set for Roxbury, Avalon/35th projects

SDOT is having open-house events in the next week and a half for both the Roxbury and Avalon/35th repaving projects (announced three weeks ago). If you live or work nearby, you might have received a mailer. In case you didn’t, here are the dates and times for these drop-in events:

ROXBURY REPAVING PROJECT OPEN HOUSE: Next Wednesday (May 17th), 5:30 pm-7 pm, Southwest Library (35th SW/SW Henderson). See the mailer here.

AVALON/35TH REPAVING PROJECT OPEN HOUSE: Tuesday, May 23rd, 5:30 pm-7 pm, Delridge Community Center (4501 Delridge Way SW). See the mailer here.

SDOT announced both of these as happening “as soon as 2019” depending on various factors (as explored in our followup).

Here’s hoping they make a signal priority rt turn exclusive bus-only lane extension.

I emailed CM Herbold over a week ago regarding our crumbling road infrastructure.  She never replied.  No surprise, City Council could care less about their constituents.  I wonder if this repave is going to be another classic Seattle Patch Job where they keep 1/3 of the old decrepit road, pour 1/3 concrete and 1/3 asphalt? Whomever is head of paving at the City of Seattle should be fired.  The repave job on the Spokane Street Viaduct was a total disaster.

CM Herbold may have been too busy co-penning an article for the stranger in support of Scarecrow Video, that West Seattle institution………wait a minute, not a WS institution.

Tracy, this Wednesday for Roxbury, or next Wednesday the 24th?  Thanks!

… also, the city point person just sent out an e-mail about the open house today. Part of the reason I wrote this is that I checked on the webpages over the weekend and was surprised to find that the open house dates had been set – and that one was coming up on Wednesday! – because we hadn’t received any announcement, beyond the original announcement that Roxbury and Avalon outreach was beginning, with a mention at that time of upcoming meetings but no dates. So if you weren’t in the mailer zone – and you know how relatively small that can be – you might not have heard. The e-mail sent today also says a Roxbury survey will be launched “as soon as tomorrow.” So we’ll be looking out for that. – TR
