TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Monday watch, with May Day alerts & nighttime bridge closure

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)

6:51 AM: Good morning. No incidents in or from West Seattle right now, but two reminders for the day ahead:

MAY DAY: Here are the alerts about the protests with permits and possible transit effects, as well as what we found about protests without permits. We’ll be monitoring throughout the day.

WEST END OF BRIDGE TO CLOSE TONIGHT: The first overnight closure for streetlight work on the west end of the high bridge is scheduled to start at 9 pm tonight, west of Delridge. Here’s the alert SDOT originally sent two weeks ago.

Light commute this morning. Open seats on the bus. What’s going on?

Many people are taking the day off, working from home , etc due to potential riots.  I’ve been told the last few years to leave early.

My guess was folks working from home due to potential May Day activity downtown? I’ll take it though!

Maybe a lot of people are taking the day off, to avoid the traffic and other potential impacts of the protests.

Bus Rider, The May Day activities downtown have prompted many to “work from home” today.

FYI re: bridge close – I came across at 4:55 this morning (west bound) and there was no sign of closure. They must have finished early.

It wasn’t scheduled to close last night (Sunday night). Tonight is the first night.

Ha!  That’s a way more plausible explanation!  Thanks.

People may be staying home today. My daughter doesn’t have school today because of the proteats. Her school is giving the kids the opportunity to march.

  • Gene May 1, 2017 (8:41 am)

if there’s a traffic problem due to marches/protestors during the afternoon/ evening commute- you may have your answer.

Hoping that SPD has a safe day today and can keep order in our city.
