UPDATE: Bicyclist to hospital after Delridge/Willow collision

4:46 PM: Thanks for the text – a traffic incident at Delridge and Willow (map) is detouring vehicles. We’re on our way to find out more.

5:11 PM: By the time we got there, SFD was leaving and the scene was completely clear. We’re told by witnesses that it was a collision between a bicyclist and driver, and the bicyclist was transported by private ambulance.

5:28 PM: Via e-mail, SFD spokesperson Kristin Tinsley confirms this was a bicyclist/driver collision, and the rider, a woman about 30 years old, was transported to a hospital via AMR, in stable condition.

Whatever happened, it was LOUD! I live at 22nd and Thistle and it scared my cats under the bed!

This is kind of far from 22nd/Thistle – so you might have heard something else.

Dang it! That’s my same route via bike. Hope she is okay. Slow down everyone please.

Who said speed was a factor?

Was speed a factor in this collision?

I don’t think so. It looked to me like the car had been in the middle lane, pointed north, and then turned across the southbound lane to go into a driveway. The cyclist was very close to the car, and the car didn’t appear to have much damage. The bike had already been moved to the sidewalk when I got there. My *guess* is that the driver had been stopped before making the turn, and didn’t see the cyclist.

Kudos to everyone who stopped and helped. I came on the scene about 5 mins after it happened, just before the first responders. Bystander’s had already stabilized her and kept her warm with a blanket. The driver was on the scene. As a fellow cyclist, my thoughts are with her hoping for a speedy recovery!

She’s my co-worker.  She broke her wrist. Otherwise, she’s doing okay. Thanks to all who stopped and helped.

Sorry, comment time is over.
