Question about Seattle Police traffic enforcement? Be at WS Crime Prevention Council next Tuesday!

The questions come up often in story comments here on WSB – why don’t you see Seattle Police Traffic Enforcement officers at certain trouble spots? Why do you see them at certain spots some consider to be “speed traps”? How can you get them assigned to enforcement where you believe they’re needed? Those are just a few. Next Tuesday (May 16th), you can bring those questions directly to the commander of the traffic unit, Capt. Eric Sano, who is the scheduled guest at the West Seattle Crime Prevention Council meeting. The monthly WSCPC meeting is also where you can bring local crime questions/concerns to Southwest Precinct leadership, and hear the latest on crime trends. The meeting’s at 7 pm Tuesday in the meeting room just off the precinct parking lot, 2300 SW Webster.

I know that the police would be unlikely to willingly push for it, since it automates a part of their job, but I wonder if they would be interested in getting serious about automated speed enforcement using speed cameras.

Most major countries have them, without big issues. I’m sure we could do the same here — and it would do wonders for slowing down our dangerous, deadly drivers.

Right now there are already speed cameras in some school zones around the city including four in West Seattle. City policy (I’m not sure if it’s also a matter of city/state law) is that they can only be used in school zones. More are under consideration for installation and I have yet to find the list of whether any of the proposed additions are here in WS – TR

Although I generally hate discretionless speed cameras, they are a vital last resort on Alki to stop the speed racing especially after hours. Residents already know this, the police and city officials don’t seem to have a clue or care.

Right now on Admiral Way there are two speed camera’s on the 5000 block of SW Admiral Way.  One going East the other going West. They are absolutely useless, we need radar camera’s installed to reduce the excessive speeding on this extremely dangerous street. Once they start getting tickets for not obeying the speed limit they might think twice!

Why are you asking for cameras instead of officers?

How many drunk drivers do the cameras catch? How many people without insurance? How many stolen cars? Wanted felons etc etc etc

Cameras are bs and millions of our dollars are being siphoned out of state because of them.

Sorry, comment time is over.
