From White Center Now: Deadly shooting under investigation

But I thought the shooting gallery was on 15th and Roxbury.  Seems like at least half of WC shootings occur around that intersection.

Things have been quieter lately – at least there. Other areas of the region have had their share of deadly violence, from South Seattle to South King County. I’m researching, to add to our story on WCN, the last injury/death shooting in WC. (Added: It was in late March.) – TR

Right outside of Taradise. Plus the wonderful addition of Drunkys BBQ. Just horrible.

I am so excited to see White Center become more of a place to go as we live right near the Safeway on Roxbury; however, with violence like this it is going to be challenging to draw people to the area because the reputation of White Center is still not what I would call “safe”.  Drunky’s BBQ looks like a great place and I can’t wait to try it out, but at what expense to the patrons…such a bummer, I hope there is a way to increase surveillance in this area as the eateries in White Center are incredibly good and I would hate to see places suffer because of the public’s hesitancy to frequent the area

I remain hopeful that people can look beyond the reputation and see the neighborhood–and the incidents in it–for what they are.  What happened this morning was awful.  But it was a personal dispute between people who, most likely, had too much to drink.  This kind of incident can (and, sadly, does) happen in every neighborhood with any kind of bar scene (remember the Ballard baby shower brawl last fall?)  It has no bearing on how safe I feel in the neighborhood (KCSO response times notwithstanding).

And if you’ve missed us mentioning this in the past … if you sit through crime briefings on both sides of the city-county line, as we do – the King County Sheriff’s Office briefs the North Highline Unincorporated Area Council, which we cover for WCN every month – while crime is NOT high on either side of the line, some categories are lower on the county side than the city. Fewer car prowls, for example. According to the KCSO doc handed out at last week’s NHUAC meeting (our report is still in progress), last month was the lowest in at least a year for major crimes in North Highline (which includes WC). The major exception was auto theft, which is up on the city side too – in North Highline’s three beats, 18 in April, compared to 15 a year earlier. – TR

Wasn’t there a shooting right near that block 1 or 2 years ago?

  • Dani May 7, 2017 (5:26 pm)

Any updates on this? Any info on the suspect? Living two blocks from there makes me very nervous!

The main story on White Center Now includes more about the victim:

      http://whitecenternow.com/2017/05/07/deadly-shooting-in-white-center/

Nothing new about the suspect, but I’d check that site for updates.

Dani, there are a few updates from throughout the day on the  White Center Now article on this.

Thanks, sorry, I only posted this as a very quick pointer to the WCN story (for anyone who doesn’t know, we’ve run that site for White Center since summer 2008) because in the past I’ve made the mistake of NOT making brief mention here that we are indeed covering certain big WC stories there, leaving some WSB-only readers thinking we weren’t covering those stories at all. We’ve updated that report several times today including a few photos as people gathered for a vigil tonight at the scene. We’ll likely have a separate followup tomorrow. – Tracy

3 Shootings in the Seattle area in 24 hours. WTF is going on?

  • Andros May 7, 2017 (9:27 pm)

W Center is going thru a transitional period and will get better. The two businesses that need to go are Taradise and Locker Room which both have the worst clientele in the area.

Taradise specifically is just a gangsters paradise.

  • It has to begin with "Ta..." May 8, 2017 (5:08 am)

Yeah, but what other “gangster’s paradises” serve the best clam chowder?

“I’ve got… two tickets to Taradise

Pack your bags, we’ll leave tonight (just, before it gets dark)”

Seattle is out of hand.  How can the city of London, UK and nearby neighborhoods have such a low  homicide rate with over 8 million people and Seattle and nearby with less than 1 million exceed the total number that London, UK and surrounding areas has?

Most developed nations around the world do not allow every citizen to carry a gun.  That is the big difference, and the country’s governments treat their citizens  much better I think.  Coming from another country I know both of those reasons to be a fact.

        It’s a good thing we don’t either.

I love how people still think that WC is getting better…no it’s not, just better food options.

AMD – To say that this was a personal dispute is trying to ignore the facts and reality. It was not a personal dispute, at this time, since the reports are stating that the man who walked out to break up the fight did not seem to know the shooter, who they don’t believe was even in the bar that night. Let’s not also forget the girl who got killed because she wouldn’t give a cigarette to a stranger at the bus stop, and all of the other incidents that have happened in WC. I love WC, but I also am not blind to the facts.

“Witness said the suspect calmly shot the victim in the head as he stood out on the street. We don’t know if the suspect had been at the bar or not.”

Gees…    what is wrong with these people?

Sorry, comment time is over.
