ELECTION 2017: The West Seattleite who says she’s NOT running for mayor

Filing week continues – and one West Seattleite has just announced that she’s NOT running for mayor. Persistent rumor had it that Councilmember Lorena González, a Junction resident, would jump in, after Mayor Murray bowed out, but she just sent this statement to media organizations including us:

After speaking with my family and much consideration, I have decided to not enter the Seattle Mayor’s race in 2017. While being the Mayor of Seattle would be an incredible honor, I remain focused on the work we have yet to accomplish on the Seattle City Council. Over the next four years, I am uniquely positioned to continue protecting our immigrant and refugee families and championing paid family and medical leave, police reform and housing affordability. I am humbled by the incredible outpouring of support and encouragement to consider this opportunity but I instead will redouble my efforts on the Seattle City Council as a citywide representative in Position 9.

The countywide list of “who’s filed so far” shows she’s officially filed for re-election to that role. No one else has filed for Position 9 yet, but the deadline’s not until Friday; six others have campaigns registered with the city.

In other words, I would have lost.  Bigly.  Please, please, can we get a liberal, moderate candidate, not someone who backs away from their (arena) promises.

We don’t need another arena, she voted it down because it would have cost real jobs. Arena’s are a joke they never bring in the money they promise, mind you we were still paying for the Kingdom long after it was demolished.

Thanks for saving us the embarrassment of one more West Seattle politician who spends time and money in ideology and little in results.

Between you , Herbold of West Seattle and the Queen of anarchy , Sawant, we have our fill of all talk and little action politicians.

I second the arena comment and add how unproductive the homeless   initiatives have  been to date, expensive and problematic  but growing in concern……

but could be worse , we could get Sawant or O’Brien..

    whew.. what a mess of a council…

You have until Friday to toss your hat in the ring. When you get into office please vote on a ridiculous stadium that we’ll all be paying for long after its been demolished. I mean who needs to address any real issues this City faces when we can sit back and whine about loosing the Sonics. Please.

what a job being on this council… they vote unanimously on nearly everything.  Where’s the debate that strengthens new legislation, ensures fairness and that power is split up between different branches when they all agree?

Thank Jesus!  The current pool is bad.

Just to correct your Kingdome statement, the bond was Paid off well before it was imploded and the roof repair bond was paid off  the same month it was imploded.

No debate on the Sonics … but pretty shallow comment that arenas and sports teams do not generate revenue or jobs.

and we do need some constructive dialogue on the council other than unanimous votes on issues such as Uber / Lift unionization and drug injection centers and so many other unproductive ideologies with little results.

Gonzalez needs to be voted out of politics.

Sorry, comment time is over.
