Bicyclist to hospital after collision on SW Bradford

The last Seattle Fire unit has just left the scene of a collision between a bicyclist and driver on SW Bradford east of California SW (map). We’re told the bicyclist, about 18 years old, did not have life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital by private ambulance; the collision happened as he was emerging onto Bradford from an alley.

Just saying…. need bike friendly streets… fewer cars on the road lead to fewer accidents.

Before jumping to conclusions, wait for the facts.

      thank you for that statement

not all car drivers are evil, and not all car drivers are able to ride a bike…

It’s not jumping to conclusions to note that Seattle needs better bike infrastructure to allow for safer cycling.

It’s a fact that our bike network is delayed and incomplete. No need to wait for anything.

The way I read hipster’s comment was, wait for the facts to come out .. because maybe it’s not due to infrastructure or motorized vehicles. Collisions (formerly known as accidents) happen and it could be anyone’s fault. We all need to share the road but in the same breath, we all need to take ownership over the transportation modes we choose.

Not to attribute any blame here, but people driving do frequently speed along those side streets.

Better bike and pedestrian infrastructure leads to more people biking and walking leads to less conflict between them and motorized vehicles. Why? Because drivers become more used to and expectant of encountering vulnerable road users and therefore adjust their driving behavior to avoid collisions. Pardon me, I just spent a week in Manhattan where people walking, biking and driving appeared to be looking out for each other and it all seemed to work rather well.

Sorry, comment time is over.
