WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Thieves and vandals, some on video

First, three reader reports, two with video; then, details on an arrest in the Genesee Hill area on Sunday:

PACKAGE THIEF: Fabio says this happened near 14th/Henderson at 6:24 pm Sunday (April 2nd):

If you know the person in the video, you can inform SPD and refer to incident #17-115548.

PACKAGE THIEF, THWARTED: From Patrick:

Just wanted to let the community know about a package thief working in the vicinity of SW Hudson and Fauntleroy. I was working in my home office at about 2:45 PM (today) and saw a man get out of a ’70s VW Bug (bright red) and approach my neighbor’s. He took a package that Fedex delivered earlier. I ran out yelling at him. He apparently was having difficulty getting it in gear so I opened the passenger door and grabbed the package. He took off and headed north on Fauntleroy. Man had a goatee and was wearing a Navy blue/blackish hoody. I called 911 and also just spoke to an officer. Officer said that that car description is a new one for them but should be easy to find since it is distinct.

EGGING VANDALS: While this next clip is not crystal-clear, Timothy is hoping that someone will recognize the vandals throwing eggs at his house, and/or their car:

He says, “I’m hoping someone recognizes the car or the characters inside. I realize the video quality isn’t great, but enough to be identifiable to the right person. It’s also disconcerting that the perpetrator is heard gleefully exclaiming that he’d hit a window. They were trying to do damage.” It happened last Friday night and he says he’s heard reports of other houses hit too.

HIT & RUN ON 35TH: Maybe you know who hit James’s car sometime Saturday night or Sunday morning:

“Someone sideswiped their car into mine (a black 2013 Mazda hatchback). My car was parked on the east side of busy 35th Ave SW in the 7500 block. The hit & run caused body damage along my driver’s side door and broke-off my driver-side mirror. The police have been notified. If anyone was an eyewitness to this incident and/or knows any information, please call me, the vehicle owner, James @ (206) 658-5295. Thank you.”

SUSPECT FOUND IN STOLEN CAR: From SPD Blotter today, the details on a sizable police response in the Genesee Hill area on Sunday morning. In short, police found a 43-year-old suspect asleep inside a stolen car, “in possession of other unreported stolen items.” The 2016 Nissan had been taken early Sunday from the 3500 block of SW Trenton, and its owner used a tracking system to show it was in the 4700 block of SW Dakota, engine running, “full of unreported stolen items (clothing, power tools, air compressor, etc.). Officers took the suspect into custody without incident.”

We were comparing this pic with the one shown in the April 2 posting with face partially covered and wondering if might be the same person.

The red VW beetle is currently parked on 26th ave sw and andover street in north delridge

I was on the phone with 911 to report the car and an officer pulled up. The car was stolen yesterday, used in the attempted package theft, and then ditched on 26th ave sw. There were items in the back of the car but I didn’t stick around to see what it was. The car will be returned to its owner.

    Patrick,

That was a heads-up move near Hudson and Fauntleroy.  Fast neighborhood action and a sluggish thief that can’t drive a 1970s stick.   Good combination — good work.  Your community appreciates it.

Ugh, that’s the second hit and run I’ve seen on 35th in the past 3 weeks. Last one got at least 2 cars. Several more incidents I’ve noticed in my time here. I’ve always assumed drunk drivers at night?

This is something that worries me with the opening of Best of Hands Barrelhouse coming soon to 35th & Webster. Between the awesome establishments at 35th & Kenyon, Best of Hands, and the other establishments around the area, how many more swipes (or worse) are we going to see in the coming months?

I’m find that drunk and distracted driving are rarely punished here, as well as other traffic violations. I see little to no traffic patrols, and I think it might be a resource issue with SPD. I just want unsafe/illegal driving to be properly addressed in this region. I’m not sure why 35th is such a magnet, maybe other areas with bars such as Morgan junction and Alaska junction have these issues, but I just use 35th way more. I am excited for the new brewery though.

I live in the vicinity of SW Hudson and Fauntleroy. I had a package delivered today around 3pm and had a friend swing by around 4:30 to grab it but by the time she arrived it was gone. I can only assume it was stolen by the same people. These guys are clearly still out there and must be following delivery trucks around. So maddening!

Not sure if this is related but our cars were broken into the night of 3/31.  Saturday morning we were having our morning coffee and someone knock on our door at 8am.  My husband and I looked at each other wondering who could it be and when we open the door we saw a jogger, he said he just wanted to let us know all of our car doors and trunks are left open.  I guess we must have forgotten to lock our car doors.  Nothing was taken from my car, I don’t leave any valuables in there.  I did have my city select double stroller in the trunk but I guess they are not looking for that.  They took the battery jump starter from my husband’s car.  We were told these people are just looking for fast cash, things they could sell easily, and loose change or money in the car.  Please remember to lock your car doors at night!

That tall fat kid in the white hoodie stealing a package in the first video hangs out in the Walgreens on 35th parking lot smoking swishers with his fellow “associates”.

I don’t think the white BMW with the black wheels is his but I’ve seen him there recently.

Sorry, comment time is over.
