HAPPENING NOW: BlueStone Apartments’ grand opening

Live jazz and treats await you at the grand-opening celebration for the BlueStone Apartments (9051 20th SW). The music continues until 4, the party until 5, including tours.

The 40+-unit complex, built by STS Construction Services (longtime WSB sponsor) and managed by North Pacific Properties, has variety. First-floor units, including a handful of live-works, have high ceilings (16 feet). The building includes 2-bedroom apartments (not always easy to find in new construction) as well as 1-bedrooms – more than a dozen floor plans, even 2 bedroom/2 baths. Each unit has its own laundry room. And there are unexpected touches such as built-in connections for portable air-conditioning units.

The four-story building includes some views of Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains, and some units have terraces or balconies.

The lighting is all LED.

BlueStone is leasing now – another tenant was moving in while we were visiting – and we’re told one of the live-work units is expected to soon have a small café. If you don’t get to stop by today, you can inquire online.

I know you acknowledged the sponsorship of the builder for WSB, but it feels like this sort of story should have a giant SPONSORED prefix so it’s a little clearer. Speaking as someone who regularly reads this site, I can’t think of another time I’ve seen an apartment complex’s grand opening being publicized here.

Hi, Brian. Your assumption is inaccurate. It’s not a “sponsored post” and we don’t sell those, unlike most news sites seem to be doing these days … we are sometimes asked to, and could make a little more $ toward sustainability if we did, but we feel those blur the line way too much. We always mention if a sponsor is involved, as noted with STS, and have done so since our inception. We also “welcome” most new local sponsors and have for our entire decade of doing this, but that’s not applicable here. The apartment complex itself is not advertising on WSB and therefore is not described as a sponsor.

Apartment buildings don’t always have “grand openings,” and that’s part of what made this newsworthy, especially given this is the first new one in South Delridge. However, we have covered events at new apartment buildings, most recently The Whittaker (which currently sponsors WSB but did not at the time of this story, which is why it’s wasn’t labeled as a sponsor in the text):

I can’t think of the last building that had a ribboncutting or other grand opening otherwise, at least not one that was sent to us as an event-calendar listing and candidate for coverage, as was this one. – TR

Content is content. I get it. Thanks for the thorough response. I really appreciate it.

The site where this was built was mostly empty, with a run down, unsafe house. This building is definitely an improvement.

Nowhere on their site do they reveal the rent being charged,  We all know what that means.

Yes, it means … they don’t have their rates online. Some buildings do, some don’t. We asked out of curiosity. A one-bedroom at $1500 was mentioned, a 2-bedroom just under $2000. (The latter is quantified here:
https://www.apartments.com/blue-stone-seattle-wa/w6bywdl/ ) Lower than my quick spot check of some other new buildings, but if anybody reading this has been apartment-hunting lately, they’d know better. – TR

Most of these new buildings advertise on Craigslist. If you search for “Blue Stone” under housing, you’ll find several listings. (Make sure you’re not looking at the Fremont property.) I saw a 1br for around $1550 and 2br for around $1900. Cheaper than the new construction in the Alaska Junction where 1br goes for around $2000.

Sorry, comment time is over.
