DOWNTOWN ALERT: Closures, detours for investigation of shooting that injured officers

3:36 PM: We haven’t mentioned this downtown situation sooner (aside from comment discussions) because of the 35th/Morgan crash closure (updates here), but now that the pm commute is starting and the situation is not yet resolved: Some blocks in the heart of downtown are still closed for the investigation of a shooting that injured two Seattle Police officers after a store robbery downtown. Both are at Harborview Medical Center. SPD says it found two suspects and is seeking a possible third. The closures have been affecting Western, 1st, 2nd, from Spring to Madison to Marion, so if you’re trying to get through downtown, heading as far east as you can, before heading south, is a good bet.

3:50 PM: SPD tweeted that they are no longer looking for someone else, “all suspects in custody.” At about the same time, authorities briefing media at Harborview said one officer is in stable condition, one is in serious condition. No new updates on road closures/bus changes.

4:34 PM: Updated road closures downtown, per SDOT: “Western Ave between Spring St & Marion St.; Marion St between Western Ave & 1st Ave.”

4:48 PM: Now SPD says there might be a third suspect after all. Meantime, thanks in advance to commenters sharing any updates on how things are going getting from downtown to West Seattle – Mary took RapidRide and says “no issues.”

    How are they doing?

I tuned into the most-recent briefing in time to hear SPD say both officers are stable, and the most-seriously injured one is in serious condition, which is an upgrade from an earlier report of critical.

Just returned from downtown to West Seattle via C line. No issues.

        You are welcome :)

Perhaps this will be the fire needed to be under the collective arses of the leaders of this city to start PROACTIVELY policing, instead of doing everything reactively.

Walk the streets of Seattle and you will see pond scum everywhere. I’m not talking about people that are mentally ill; I’m talking about the criminals that are armed and push drugs all over downtown Seattle.

    Do something about it, SPD!

That’s not going to happen dirk, because this incident could have happened no matter what.

Also with the money grabbing DOJ in town, policies are a hands off approach to give the illusion that everything is hunky dory when it isn’t.

Meanwhile, Merrick Bobb of the traveling DOJ is making $2,000 dollars a DAY,  not to mention his cronies and their paychecks.

      And then there’s this : https://www.google.com/amp/mynorthwest.com/30270/exclusive-seattle-police-monitor-blasts-city-for-humiliating-him/amp/

If you read what he says, he basically black mails Seattle for questioning his questionable spending of tax payers’ money, by saying he will find Seattle out of compliance if the city keeps questioning him. Tell me, what does this have to do with compliance? .

So yell at the “leaders” of this city if you want to yell at someone. The cops are not doing what they’re told not to do.

Side note :interesting that people are outraged about the trees with 53 comments and more in past blogs, but police shot and there’s 7 comments, including mine

Unfortunately, SPD had their hands tied behind their back by the DOJ.

Yes, the SPD has had their hands tied by our city officials and Obama’s DOJ. I only hope our next mayor will begin correcting the mess our so called political leadership has made. I won’t hold my breath, though. If either Murray or McGinn are re-elected, I doubt much will change. And then there’s Kshama Sawant.

Sawant is a delusional, cop hating elitist socialist who lives in a snow globe and comes up with bumper sticker slogans for the sheeple to chant. She’s a wannabe politician and wannabe activist If she had her way you’d be paying 50% of your income to taxes to help the disenfranchised, homeless people would be setting up camp in all the parks, and there would be no “evil” police dept. Well except when she wanted the Seattle police department to step in and stop I. C. E.  (a federal agency) from doing its job.

It is actually true that if a suspect says “ouch” during an interaction with police it triggers an illegal use of force investigation with lots of paperwork, etc. I’m not kidding.

Unfortunately the general public has no idea what the police deal with, and the restraints put on them to even talk about their frustrations of perceptions the ignorant general public has.

The police PR rep should be fired and the officers should be able to speak freely of their concerns and knowledge of what’s really happening on the street, but that ain’t gonna happen any time soon.

No, in this city’s ultra liberal kumbaya thinking, everyone is supposed to win and criminals are ultimately just unfortunate victims.

I was speaking with an officer and he said that they used to take 7-8 illegal guns off the street every week just from traffic stops and since the DOJ came into town it’s almost nothing. But hey, crime is down! Of course it is when cops aren’t actually Busting people for crimes such as this.

Sorry, comment time is over.
