9:21 PM: A big Seattle Fire response is on the way to the 6700 block of 18th SW [map] on Puget Ridge. According to scanner traffic, an SUV has hit a tree and is on its side, with one person reported trapped. More to come.

9:25 PM: The person is now out of the vehicle, after reportedly claiming to be unhurt. Most of the SFD response is being canceled.

10:08 PM: Photos added. This one wrapped up fast. The last SFD crew (Engine 11) passed us while we were still a few blocks away. Only one police car was left keeping watch on the vehicle until the tow truck arrived – and we passed it as we left. 18th, narrow as it is, wasn’t even blocked by the wreck.

ADDED TUESDAY MORNING: Neighbors say the driver appeared impaired, and overnight, the call was officially logged as DUI.

I wonder what happened… Must be doing something wrong to end up sideways in a 20MPH zone…

The driver was drunk, first neighbor to assist said he smelled it on her. She actually ran into a big rock in the yard at the head of the driveway, right about the same place as the speed bump, and then into the other rocks before the tree. Probably saved her for smacking the tree dead on. The big rock was over 10 feet away and had 1/4 of it sheered off by the car.

The speed bump is regularly ignored and it almost becomes amusing the numbers of times we have heard someone going to fast over it and bottoming out their vehicle.

Is that a speed bump before the crash?

I hope that tree is OK

The speed limit is 20 mph on these roads going through my neighborhood. I know there are many who feel they “have the right” to go as fast as their “skills” permit. This driver may be one of them. We have seen similar accidents on these residential streets where alcohol was not suspected. There are reasons we have speed limits. #idrivethespeedlimit
