West Seattle weather: Seeing some snow; new alert for tonight and tomorrow morning

(A few seconds of snowfall during one of the heavier showers)

12:37 PM: The newest forecast from the National Weather Service says, “A SLIGHT CHANCE OF RAIN AND SNOW IN THE AFTERNOON. SNOW LEVEL NEAR 500 FEET.” We’re at about 350′, uphill from and east of Lincoln Park, and seeing a snow shower for the past 10 minutes or so. How about you?

1:20 PM: Seems to be lightening up, at least here. Hasn’t yet reached the point of sticking, not even on car tops.

1:30 PM: Hasn’t stopped yet. Gets lighter, gets heavier, gets lighter. By the way, here’s Cliff Mass‘s most-recent update – in short, he says it’s still hard to predict exactly how this is going to play out over the next 12 hours or so.

2:13 PM: Minutes ago, the National Weather Service added our area to the Winter Weather Advisory alert for tonight and tomorrow morning – it’ll be in effect 10 pm until 10 am. “Up to 2 inches [of snow] with locally higher amounts possible,” says the NWS.

4:56 PM: As night arrives, it’s NOT snowing. So far. But wear (or take along) shoes/boots with traction, in case that changes later.

We’re a couple blocks west of you and a bit downhill. It’s lightened up again after a brief burst of intensity. Still looks murky to the west so I don’t think this is going to end any time soon.

South of Brace Point on the water.  1/2 hour of snow now turning to rain.

Isn’t it funny how a little snow makes us so happy? I think it triggers fun and happy childhood memories in us all…let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

haha, this is nothing. When I was a kid we had real snow. And we had to walk to school in it…uphill…

Me too.  Barefoot and it was 15 miles, uphill both ways.

It’s fun to watch the doppler as you can see the lulls and surges. Currently we are getting pretty big flakes in Riverview. It’s 38 degrees here and nothing is sticking anywhere.

Lots of flurries on Puget Ridge 1:40pm. Hope it starts sticking!

  • Chris December 31, 2016 (1:50 pm)

Snow flurries in  North Admiral.   It is beautiful.   Looks like early from forecasts we saw earlier today.   It is not sticking yet.

was talking to someone today about  predicting the weather, and we decided we want that job. Imagine…predicting that it’s going to snow 4 or 5 days from now, getting everyone (including the kids) in a frenzy, and then…at the last minute the evening before…oh, wind shifted, nevermind…and keeping the job and getting paid to do it…lolol…that’s the kind of job we want. On the teevee machine, even. :D

Sorry, comment time is over.
