Seen off West Seattle: Another passing submarine

_dsc5592

Thanks to those who sent us photos of another submarine sighting off Alki Point this afternoon – this photo is from Bruce Easter. Identifying a submarine is not as easy (for the non-expert, anyway) as identifying other types of Navy vessels, so we don’t know which one this was. Fewer submarines are homeported in Bremerton than in Bangor on Hood Canal, but passing subs aren’t necessarily homeported there – it’s also a base for maintenance and decommissioning.

Looks like a Virginia Class attack submarine.

Agree….  I just asked a co-worker who was in a sub while serving.

Low flying Russian aircraft and submarines spotted in the area have created more activity

Also, saw an aircraft carrier roll by on its way into Bremerton Thur. morning about 7AM (still dark, but the size of the ship and the large numbers illuminated on the superstructure made it easy to see what it was)

From the sail shape, that looks like either a newer Virginia-class sub or one of the 3 Seawolf subs.

Sorry, comment time is over.
