Thanks to the texter who sent that photo a short time ago! Yes, that was a submarine passing Alki Point. Though they aren’t often seen from here, 14 are based at Naval Base Kitsap.

    This is fantastic!!  Was telling out of town guest on Saturday we had these pass thru once in awhile.

    Just a piece of trivia:  Only 2 or 3 subs are based on the Bremerton side of Naval Base Kitsap.  Those are attack subs, and they are the ones we typically see.  The rest are Trident subs or other missile subs, and they are based on the Bangor side (Hood Canal).

      Thanks, Tom! One night I was taking a ferry ride to Bremerton to get a look at a then-mysterious ship that was docked at Manchester. The ferry stopped and a sub passed. Quite a sight closeup.

    One Sunday returning home from Sequim the Hood Canal Bridge was closed for traffic because I believe a Trident Sub was going thru… it’s a scary scene seeing one of those, you never know how large they are until you are up close to one!
