UPDATE: Olson Place reopens post-crash

image

1:23 PM: Be careful out there – several problems so far today on area roads, and right now the biggest one is on the Olson Place hill [map], where police are on the scene of a multiple-vehicle crash and it’s affecting traffic to/from Highway 509 and up the hill toward Myers Way. We’ll be heading over for an update.

1:59 PM UPDATE: If you get off 509 at Myers/Cloverdale, once you get up the hill you’ll be diverted southbound onto Myers. You won’t be able to get down from Roxbury to 509. SPD is directing traffic. Just added a texted photo – thank you!

3 PM: Olson Place has just reopened. The white powder currently on the road surface was applied by SDOT.

P.S. We don’t have any details about the crash itself but no medic unit was ever dispatched, which usually means no serious injuries.

Olson place is closed off both directions. Traffic on the side streets is very congested

This happened right in front of our house, and happens almost every time it rains after dry weather. Luckily no one was seriously hurt, but people need to slow down around this corner! I hope to see them reduce/ enforce the speed limit so accidents like this could be avoided.

WORD OF CAUTION TO ALL YOU DRIVERS USE TO SPEEDING AROUND IN SEATTLE. WHEN WE GET OUR FIRST RAINS OR WEEKS ON END WITH NO RAIN THEN A SHORT WINDOW OF RAIN LIKE TODAY THE ROADS AROUND HERE GET SLICK AND ACCIDENTS LIKE THESE OCCUR EASILY. I AM HEADED TO OUT LOCAL LES SWABB AND BUYING NEW TIRES ON THAT NOTE!

In addition to the fact that Seattle roads are getting busier with population growth and the constant distracted drivers on their hand held devices it is downright dangerous out there!

Glad nobody was seriously hurt.  Those old Volvo’s still stand up against even today’s new safety enhanced engineered cars.  I agree with NW, roads are extra slick after the first rain in a while, all the oils are brought up off the roadways and it’s like a layer of ice at times.  If you have not changed to winter tires from summer (which don’t work worth crap under 45 degrees http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=273  if you are driving on tires with less than 4/32 of tread left, go get new tires.  The PNW rain will make you go off the road if you hydroplane with little to no tread left.

NW – you know auto repair shops love rain after it has been dry for awhile.

Sorry, comment time is over.
