Best place to stay cool is out on the water.  If you don’t have a boat, charter one.

Good point, Cap’n! And if like us you don’t have one AND can’t afford to charter one … it’s a bargain to take a round-trip ride on Washington State Ferries. Walk on at Fauntleroy $6.35 (or $3.15 for seniors/youth) gets you out on the water for the better part of an hour and a half!

what is the age for Walk on at Fauntleroy for seniors/youth?

  • Diane August 18, 2016 (9:14 pm)

is that $3.15 for RT?  can you just stay on the ferry?

    • WSB August 18, 2016 (9:23 pm)

Yes, walk-ons are only charged westbound, so it’s a roundtrip fare. You do have to walk off at Southworth before walking back on – a long-running security thing for everyone to have to clear off the boat – but you only have to walk a short distance to the waiting area on the dock where you can sit or stand until they let you and the other walk-ons (re)board.

Re: fares, from the WSF website: “Passenger fares are generally round trip with the exception of the Port Townsend/Coupeville route and all international sailings to Sidney, British Columbia. We offer seniors (65+), persons with disabilities and passengers with a Medicare card or other eligibility verification, travel at half the regular passenger fare rate. We offer special rates for youth 6-18 years of age. Children 0-5 years of age travel free.”

Sorry, comment time is over.
