West Seattle Crime Watch: Home, storage burglaries

Reader reports in West Seattle Crime Watch tonight:

STORAGE FACILITY HIT AGAIN: Two customers of the Public Storage facility in the 2900 block of SW Avalon Way have e-mailed to let us know burglar(s) have struck there again. One reports, “My unit along with about 15 others were hit overnight or sometime this morning.” She’s on a floor with “secure elevators” but was told that entry was made via emergency-exit stairwells. She says she’s moving her belongings somewhere else. The other victim who contacted us also reported being told that multiple units were broken into. We also reported last Sunday on multiple break-ins at the same facility.

MARINE VIEW DRIVE BURGLARY: Also via e-mail: “Today, around 12:30, my parent’s house in the area of 112th & Marine View Dr SW was broken into. The (burglars), possibly two of them, neighbors think were white males wearing construction vests & driving a dark SUV. Made entry through window & took the stolen items out the garage. Of the stolen items, the biggie was a safe. About 2×2.”

Thanks again for the Crime Watch reports – 206-293-6302 text or voice if it’s urgent (after you’ve called 911), editor@westseattleblog.com if it’s not.

Our neighbor informed us yesterday that this past Thursday at 4pm 8/25 a white panel van pulled into our driveway.  We live at the busy intersection by Lincoln Park’s south parking lot.  He said two white men got out.  One wearing a backpack and started taking a ladder off their van roof.  When asked what they planned to do.  They told our neighbor they were going to fix some cables.  He said no and leave.  They did.  Drive was young, 20ish white guy with backpack, which is what our neighbor thought was very strange.  White van had no markings at all.  It was clean.  He didn’t get a license number.

Regarding the Public Storage break in, I find this both comical and infuriating.  How many times will this place get robbed before the people of West Seattle stop supporting this business?  A storage locker which I had only been in possession of for two days was robbed 4 years ago from this location in the same exact manner listed above.  If I remember correctly, there were 15 units that had been robbed in that event.

Obviously this business is incapable of securing their facility or protecting the goods entrusted to their facility.

It sucks when your stuff is already there – costs money to move things. I call and spoke with the manager on site. They said they would have on site security and were replacing locks. I was there today and saw no security and all the pass codes are all the same.

I am one of the people who wrote in about the storage break ins and it is infuriating, I had only been there 5 days when this happened and to be told by staff that management refuses to put cameras in the stairwells where they KEEP entering to break into these units is the most frustrating part. And the make you buy a $21 dollar lock from them which is basically unusable anywhere else, and they were able to enter my unit without even tampering with the lock and they still changed the lock which is obviously useless. I moved out and am demanding a full refund.
