West Seattle Crime Watch: Assault outside Alki home; twice-stolen car now twice found; seen this scooter?

5:17 PM: In West Seattle Crime Watch:

MAN ASSAULTED OUTSIDE ALKI HOME: This happened last Wednesday night, but we didn’t hear about it until today. An Alki Beach resident was seriously hurt in an attack outside his home. His family, who has asked not to be identified, says the victim had discovered someone trespassing in their yard and urinating on the house. After suggesting that the person clean up after himself, the family said, the victim was knocked down, kicked, and beaten by the trespasser and two accomplices. The attackers got away; the victim went to the hospital. No descriptions available so far.

STOLEN CAR RECOVERED: Robin, who reported last Friday that her Honda Civic had been stolen for the second time, says it’s been found, outside West Seattle:

In case neighborhood readers are interested in the likelihood of their stolen cars turning up, Iā€™m happy to report that mine was recovered by SPD the next day on the 2600 block of King Street. The thief made a clean slice through my steering wheel with some kind of portable saw, I presume, and was able to remove the club and drive away. It doesnā€™t look like any other damage was inflicted and nothing was stolen, though itā€™s being checked out and repaired at my garage (hopefully they can find a steering column for a ā€™94 Honda!).

ANYONE MISSING THIS CAR? (Removed, as noted in comments)

6:52 PM: Just out of the WSB inbox – we’re adding this scooter-theft report:

Red Scooter, last seen Sunday night 8/28/16 on 30th and Cloverdale. If you see it please contact Terry at 206-355-2211. Seattle Police incident #16-313023.

The steering wheel clubs do seem fruitless.   We got a steel club that goes over the brake pedal and locks the brake pedal so it cannot be used.   We got it several years ago at the key shop on California Ave near Admiral on the Lafayette School side.

All it takes is a hacksaw blade. Brake pedal is a bit more work but more secure. Tell Rene hi.

wow. beaten in your own yard for the offense of calling someone out for urinating on your house?

Our mayor and city council are too concerned with making headlines to look like they’re doing right by the people.  Instead of taking action to accomplish anything useful and protect the citizens well being.  We have 2 patrol car units for Alki to The Junction, but millions of dollars spent to bail out a failed private bike share business, which now apparently we’re going to spend more millions to make an electric bike business that will fail just as bad.  So when you get shot in your yard, call the mayor and city council directly to tell them they failed you.

I hope the Alki assault victim recovers quickly. So no descriptions of the attackers were given?  Too bad Seattle’s Mayor and Chief of Police cannot achieve control of Alki’s problematic summer invasion of miscreants.

Having a vehicle dumped in front of my property – reporting to SPD is a waste of time – check the plates – front and back (the vehicle I reunited had different ones) – obviously check through the car for registration and other devices – and record/search the VIN on internet or go to DMV.  Once you have a name, LinkedIn can be a great resource.  The vehicle that was dumped was from someone who lived in the San Juans so it’s not always someone watching the blog.  Shouldn’t be this hard but the owner was appreciative of the effort and I know I would too if it was my car.

Hope the person missing the moped is checking CL.  There’s a Honda listed there  – could be legit says it has title in hand – but looks similar in pictures, posted a day ago  FedWay

I’m not a big fan of guns, but even I can admit that if the Alki resident had been armed (and trained), he would not be in the hospital, and there would be three less scumbags making life worse for everyone else. If the police won’t or can’t protect us, what choice do we have? Just hope that it never happens to us?

Guess I was lucky. Honda 4-door was left in front of my house. Front bumper and license plate missing, glove box open. I called it in to the non-emergency SPD line. Two hours later, tow truck and cop were there. It was indeed stolen, from “outside Seattle” according to the cop. But the license plate was in their data base.

The black Toyota 4 Runner is not stolen. It is my friend’s car. We parked it on my street and then we left together in my car. I live on this street.

      Taking the photo out.

How awful for the Alki resident.  I’m so sorry this happened, it was so wrong & made worse so by the perpetrators getting away.  If the SPD would do anything with it, I’d pay for a DNA test of the  urine “sample” left.

I’m missing my 2014 Subaru Forester,  last seen  in the Puget Ridge area. If anyone has seen it, please let me know.  It has an Upper Alki and a Bernie sticker, or at least it did.

It has been reported to the police.

    • WSB August 30, 2016 (6:27 pm)

Jackie – sorry to hear it. If you e-mail us about it with a little more detail (color, license plate) we can include in tonight’s Crime Watch roundup and have readers on the lookout for it – editor@westseattleblog.com – Tracy

I hope a speedy recovery for Alki resident, it’s so awful to hear about this. Our ’97 Honda was stolen last week and found 4 days later…. Unfortunately it’s totaled. Sad to hear all the crime happening in our neighborhood :-(

Sorry, comment time is over.
