West Seattle restaurants: Kizuki Ramen soft-opens; official opening Monday

On the same night that much-awaited Dumplings of Fury opened a few blocks away, another much-awaited new Junction restaurant had a very quiet “soft opening” – Kizuki Ramen and Izakaya (4203 SW Alaska).

We only noticed because of a reader tip that Kizuki might finally – after months of promising “soon” – be opening this week; then while running an errand this evening between coverage of unrelated stories, we detoured over for a look, and discovered they were allowing potential customers in.

“Irasshaimase!” could be heard from outside, every time someone stepped in – that’s Japanese for “welcome!” We subsequently sent in our photographer, who learned the official opening day will be next Monday (July 25th). From thereon out, they’re expecting to start with 11 am-2:30 pm lunch hours and reopening at 5 pm for dinner. It’s been almost a year since first word that Kizuki – at the time called Kukai – was on the way; many reader questions about its progress in the ensuing months led us to bring you multiple updates, like this one in February with a sneak peek at the design (compare to the photos in this story that we took tonight).

I thought they looked open but i didn’t go in because the report was that they weren’t open yet.  I wish I had because Dumplings of Fury was sold out by 7:00.

Finally! The decor looks just like the Cap Hill location.

While getting groceries this evening, I saw people going in, but with the windows covered with signage, It was unclear if anything was going on in there or not.  Hope they have much success.

I was wondering if it was going to beat the tunnel.

right!  I was beginning to worry that they ran out of money preparing the space!

WSB there was a comment left on your February report asking about an update of the Wing Stop going into Westwood Village? That space seems to still be vacant with no activity going on. Do you have any new updates on it?

Still seems to be progressing. Their liquor license application just went in.

Hi WS Mom, I work in Westwood and I can assure you that there is a lot going on inside Wing Stop.  The sign is up and one of the crew told my coworker “a couple of weeks”.

I wondered if Kuzuki was close to opening. Saw someone bringing in a cart of sake a week or so ago, but forgot to mention it.

Oh yippee! I just went to the Northgate one for the first time this week. It’s delicious! Glad that we have one on the home front that’s finally open.

Ohboyohboyohboyohboy! Can’t wait! Got a little tired going all the way up to Capitol Hill, U-District  or downtown for good ramen or udon. Now I can really live up to my screen name!

Please fill out the reservation form in the link. After our Grand Opening on July 25th, we will go back to our regular business operations and will not be accepting reservations. So, RSVP soon! We are hard at work prepping for our soft opening and ensuring that our entire crew is ready to deliver the best ramen experience available without having to fly to Japan!

    • Love me some ramen, but... July 25, 2016 (10:51 am)

Any plans on adding another veggie broth option? Wasn’t a big fan of the current one when I had it at the Capitol Hill location, as I was put off by the added soy milk and lack of tofu. Hoping that there will be at least one extra veggie option.

Thank you for posting the link to make reservations for the soft opening. Everything we tried was very delicious (and we tried lots of things- potato  croquette, gyoza, spinach, chilled tofu, edamame, ramen). Everyone there was helpful and friendly. We loved it and can’t wait to come back!

It is a good thing they changed the name from Kukai to Kizuki, as Kukai means poop in Hawaiian.

Hope to try some Kizuki soon!

Sorry, comment time is over.
