Police investigating suspected gunshots in South Delridge

1:27 AM: Thanks for the texts about 10-12 suspected gunshots in South Delridge before 1 am. Police have been dispatched to check it out; so far, we haven’t heard anything indicating they’ve found confirmation of gunfire – such as shell casings or property damage. Definitely no gunshot victims reported in this area. The texters have mentioned the 16th/17th/Barton/Henderson vicinity; one tells us the sound “very close by” woke them up.

1:40 AM: Now we hear there was word of an apparent bullet hole in a car at 16th/Henderson.

Hearing the gunshots was a startling way to be awakened. Thanks for the update WSB.

It definitely sounded like it came from the direction of Henderson and the alley between 16th and 17th. I too was woken up by them. 3 gunshots, pause then 7 more, followed by an argument that I couldn’t make out. Very frightening.

I heard it pretty clear from 34th/Cloverdale at right around 12:40-12:45 while I was taking my dog out. I agree that is was a couple of large bursts of 5-6+ rounds.

@DJ: hearing the reported shots across Delridge as well as the entire Westwood shopping area is unlikely. If you believe you heard gunshots in , please file a report with the police asap so they can investigate your area.

Woke us up and we live on Seola Beach Dr near 106th, so it was loud!

I drive through that area sometimes  on my way to work.  I feel bad for the people who live there as it seems they’re trying to make it nice,  but between people dumping  their beds,  Tv”s and other trash,  and the trash that hangs out on the corners in the middle of the night,  it’s got to suck

I’m a couple blocks east of that intersection and I can definitely say that was the first time I’ve heard a shooting that was close enough there wasn’t even a question about whether or not it might be fireworks.  I heard bursts of 4, then 5, then 3 rounds.  Super scary to think I was walking home from that bus stop just an hour before…

There was gunshots last Friday evening on 16 Ave between Elmgrove and Trenton around 930 pm. 6 shots then a car gunning away. Called 911 and they said there was already several reports to them about it. Scarey out there in that neck of the woods.

I was on my front porch when the shots went off. I heard the bullets zip by and I ran to get my gun, when I came back out there were people scattering all over the place. One bullet hit my tire and maybe another in the wheel well

Hey Jason, I am glad that you are okay. Where was your car parked when it was hit?

I was driving by, heard the shots and saw two youths running. I stopped and got out with my gun but they were too far gone by the time I was done fumbling with the safety. Wish I had my Glock instead of the 45.

As a CCW holder,  WTF are Jason and Suge White doing? ! You guys need to watch less TV and go take some defensive gun classes.  Jason,  you obviously had the opportunity  to get to safety and yet you came back outside armed ready to pull a Charles  Bronson.  Had you shot  someone, like it or not,    you probably would have been in court facing your own charges.

Suge White,  fumbling with  the safety of your gun kind of tells  me you’re not all that familiar with it, and you state you wish you had you’re Glock (because I am assuming it has no safety) instead of your 45 (which also implies the Glock is of different caliber).

Carrying  a gun is more than just carrying a gun.  It takes practice,  practice,  and more practice.  Not just target practice,  but holster draw practice,  dry firing practice (which most  modern hand guns allow),  with 1911 models, practicing cocked and locked draw and most important consistency. Being consistent in what you’re carrying,  how you’re carrying,  and carrying  in  general.

It’s also about running through scenarios of what you would do if the need arises.  How would you respond, not react, and de escalating the situation,  not escalate it.
