Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que in West Seattle: New WSB sponsor

One day after the official grand opening of Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que in West Seattle, today is the new restaurant’s first full day in business, and we’re welcoming them as a new WSB sponsor. As with all new local sponsors, Pecos Pit gets the chance to let you know what they’re about:

We believe in BBQ’s primal power: The artful use of wood, fire, and smoke to enhance the quality of one’s life and “spread the love.” So … we are taking this power, fusing it into an innovative business model and delivering a simpler but better BBQ experience. Do Well, Do Good, Have Fun!

After 35 years of having a single Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que location on 1st Avenue, Ron and Debra Wise have teamed up with Gerry Kingen to share their iconic Seattle jewel with the rest of the world. The new Pecos Pit location serves the same famous Pecos Pit BBQ found on 1st Ave for decades, along with some new habit-forming options. Offerings include our traditional pork, beef, and chicken sandwiches in a decidedly sloppy style, plus beef brisket and hot links. (Explore the menu here.)

New variations include stuffed smoked potatoes (sweet or russet) and a “Walkaround Bowl” filled with the meat of your choice plus cheese, cold slaw and sauce. We also serve healthy salads made with your choice of smoked meat, or have it veggie style with baby kale, olives, tomatoes, cowboy caviar, cheddar cheese, and blue cheese or ranch dressing. You can even buy bulk, smoked meats, including Pecos pork, beef brisket, turkey legs and smoked chicken.

Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que‘s new West Seattle restaurant is located at 4400 35th Avenue SW. Our hours are 11 a.m.– 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. We have indoor and outdoor seating; you can order ahead by phone at 206-708-7691; or, use the drive-through. Our 16 parking spaces are next door, off the alley, to the east.

We thank Pecos Pit Bar-B-Que for sponsoring independent, community-collaborative neighborhood news via WSB; find our current sponsor team listed in directory format here, and find info on joining the team by going here.

Attended the soft opening with my spouse. We both had sliced brisket on russet potatoes.  The staff was extremely courteous and went out of their way to answer questions. We will be back again.

I went last night to check them out, as well as A LOT of other people around 7pm.

Having not eaten there before I and told the order taker “I’ll have ‘the classic’ with whatever type of meat Pecos is best known for, and enjoyed the chopped pork sandwich she suggested. Which I enjoyed.

However I can’t say the same for the coleslaw…didn’t even finish it. Two bites told me its not very appealing, so next time I’m going to try the beans which smelled pretty good.

The staff was in high spirits and able to keep up with the volume that streamed in the door for the 30 or so minutes I was there.

Especially liked the  American flag made out of baseball bats!!!!

    I’ll be back…

Jerry and Kathy Kingen have once again done something wonderful to enrich West Seattle!

I will be interested to see how traffic pans out in this busy area. Almost a constant flow coming off of the bridge southbound 35th and going to the bridge northbound. No left on Avalon between 4-7 M thru F.  People will want to turn left from southbound 35th into the lot, backing up an already congested block. Hardly any parking and a lot that dumps out on to a neighborhood street. Hope I’m wrong.

Sadly, I don’t think you’re wrong. I live on that neighborhood street and am surprised the drive-thru was approved. Twice we’ve tried to come down the alley to our garage and have had to go around because cars were blocking the entrance, lined up all the way into the 7-11 parking lot.  There is now a steady flow of cars on what was once a quiet street. Not happy.

I tried to call my order in and was told they can’t take phone orders due to the high volume in the restaurant. Pretty disappointed.

It’s the first day or two. Things might get better.  I hope so because I want to see what the hoopla is about.

“cold slaw” and aforementioned traffic issues?  Realize it’s early in their reincarnation, however, OY!

Welcome to the neighborhood Pecos. Nice job with the renovation work. Food was pretty good and tasty when I tried it and the staff was super kind. I just hope the goofy shouting/chanting of orders by the staff is not going to be the standard procedure as it makes it super hard to hear and a little confusing while ordering.

I went to Pecos in WS yesterday…It seemed very odd at first to have Pecos sandwich in a different location. I’ve been go to the 1st ave location  for 30+ years. The Food was spot on.

Is it a cash only joint like their First Ave location?

    • WSB July 1, 2016 (2:11 pm)

They take cards, we can confirm. Online reviews suggest even the 1st Ave location no longer is cash-only, but that I can’t verify.

  • Egan Fo July 1, 2016 (2:10 pm)

I answered my own question by calling them. Cards accepted except for AMEX.

Sorry, comment time is over.
