UPDATE: Genesee reopens east of Avalon after truck spills load

image

6:05 PM: Thanks for the tips – westbound Genesee is closed just east of Avalon because a truck trailer’s load spilled.

6:28 PM: Just went by. Still blocked but traffic is getting by both ways, alternating, with SPD directing.

7 PM: Via Twitter, SDOT says it may take a few hours for this to be cleaned up so the westbound lane can reopen.

8:05 PM: Added that photo from Daniel, who says he saw it happen: “Truck driver attempted to go up the hill, failed, rocked the truck and the load of bricks came out.” He says police told him the driver was cited.

10:23 PM: Thanks for the updates – Genesee is open again both ways.

At the present time, 7:12pm, the truck is still there.

Thank you! If SDOT’s info is valid, it might be a while. But we appreciate updates – we’re going to check back around 8:30 but if it’s still there after that, not sure if we’ll get by again and not certain if SDOT will update – TR

    At least it’s not fish.

Same spot I totaled my brand new Jetta. It’s a total blind spot, people speeding to get up hill, trees block view. Horrible road I avoid now.

Sorry about your car. In this case, a witness just e-mailed us, saying the truck was having trouble climbing, tried to “rock” to gain momentum, load spilled. Adding one of his photos.

I live just down the street from this, they have Genesee closed in both directions from 26th to Avalon. This looks like it’s going to take some time to get cleared.

9:25 and truck still there, clean up still happening. Why was this large truck trailer on this road/hill in the first place???

  • Lagartija Nick April 8, 2016 (9:55 pm)

9:50 and they have the trailer off the hill, it’s sitting in the valley above Longfellow creek. Probably be cleared soon.

Like gh above I don’t understand why they were trying to go up that hill in the first place. I’ve lived here for two years and have never seen a semi try to go up that hill. Glad they wee cited. Wonder how much.

Here’s a pic of them backing the trailer towards Delridge. This should be over soon.

They’ve cleared the scene, Genesee is open both ways.

I could have used some of those bricks…needed a wall upon which to beat my head this afternoon  ;-)   I hate that hill…

Sorry, comment time is over.
