SATURDAY TRAFFIC ALERT: Concrete pour to bring extra truck traffic to Murray CSO

Before the year’s out, the county expects to complete the Murray Combined Sewer Overflow Control Project across from Lowman Beach Park, north of Lincoln Park; our most-recent project update followed the briefing presented last week to the Fauntleroy Community Association. There’s still some major work to be done, and some of it will bring dozens of concrete trucks to the site tomorrow. Here’s the alert:

King County’s contractor will be pouring concrete on-site tomorrow, Saturday, April 23 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to encase an electrical duct bank on the north side of the facility building (see photo). The electrical lines will provide power to the facility building and underground storage tank. The concrete will protect the electrical lines from moisture and heat.

Up to 10 trucks an hour will deliver concrete to the site. One concrete pump truck will be located on the east side of Beach Drive S.W. to pump the concrete onto the duct bank. Trucks delivering concrete will enter the site from Lincoln Park Way S.W. and exit using 48th Ave S.W. Trucks waiting to pour will park on Lincoln Park Way SW. Expect traffic delays and congestion while the pour is underway. Flaggers will be on site to safely direct traffic through the work zone.

Thank you for your continued patience during construction. Please contact the project hotline 206-205-9186 with any questions or concerns.

The million-gallon storage tank that’s at the heart of the project is expected to keep sewage from overflowing into Puget Sound when stormwater overwhelms the system.

P.S. Questions about this project? Next Tuesday (April 26), 5-7 pm, is your chance to drop by the site, look for the info tent that will be set up, and ask!

Speaking of upcoming work, I saw a big SDOT sign (one of the programmable ones with wheels and lights) off to the side of 35th this morning- i can’t remember exactly where.. like it was staged there for upcoming work?  Do you know what that was for, or maybe it was work to be done today?

That was going to be for the Fauntleroy Expressway work that we reported yesterday is now delayed. One had already been going on Fauntleroy a couple blocks west of the bridge entrance – haven’t been that way today but I hope they have either temporarily deactivated it or else updated it.

Re: SDOT signs, some big orange ones were put on parking strips on California between Andover and Manning a few weeks ago while some roadwork was done just south of Charleston.  No one has come back to reclaim them, so they are just lying around on parking strips.  Who do we contact to get them removed?

Carole – any non-urgent SDOT question/report should go to 206-684-ROAD. (If it’s urgent, like a tree blocking a road, debris in a road or on a sidewalk, etc., the 24-hour dispatch number is 206-386-1218)

If you live on Graham St. and see any dump trucks taking this shortcut to or from California, PLEASE call it in. Graham St. is not part of the approved route, though I’ve witnessed drivers often cheating the rules (though props to their staffers for helping to solve the issue, particularly with the huge pour last time). Working from home, I’ve seen too many big trucks (cement and earth movers) moving way too fast on this residential street. It’s more aggravating when you know they’re not even supposed to be there to begin with.

Same thing with Morgan St, not an approved route.  They are supposed to use the approved routes so the wear and tear can be monitored as well.

Sure as the salmon returning to Capistrano, they’re off route again. I just snapped a pic of a mixer truck headed eastbound on Graham St, the second one I’ve seen but I’ve heard others. I sent it to Tracy, and maybe she’ll add? Anyway, they take up the whole dang street and simply aren’t supposed to be there. Grrrr… The fact they rattle the whole house while I’m trying to work is a big part of it.

You should be able to upload a photo to any comment here. Have you called the project hotline? PLEASE do. They have the power to stop that immediately and they say they answer 24/7. (Let me know if not)

I’ve placed two calls (206-205-9186), but they know me from before so I did not ask them to bother calling back. They have my info. Another truck just went by at 11:30, more than an hour since I forwarded the first photo to Caryn Sengupta (project manager) at 10:15.

As I was writing I JUST got a call from Sara from their hotline. She’s now contacting the contractor. Hopefully my afternoon will be more productive.

Sorry, comment time is over.
