TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Tuesday on the move

(Click any view for a close-up; more cameras on the WSB Traffic page)

6:30 AM: Good morning! You can’t see it in the cameras but if you have a southeast view, check out the sunrise colors. So far, no incidents in or from West Seattle.

8:53 AM: I-5 northbound has a lane blocked right before I-90, which might cause some backups because of the proximity to the West Seattle Bridge offramp. Otherwise, a relatively “normal” commute; rain is due back this afternoon.

I was just about to add that. I-5 has been today’s trouble spot, regionally …

SFD left a few minutes ago but trucks getting there then sitting in the right lane created a choke point and back on WS Bridge. Looked like a rear ending with 2 vehicles. WSP and  vehicles on shoulder.

I was on I-90 Eastbound, going through the tunnel to enter Mercer Island, and this big rig is moving awfully fast. The rig moved into the left lane (Okay, that’s odd) so I decided to stay in the middle lane back a bit. A gold sedan moved from the middle lane in front of the truck with not a lot of room to spare. This is when I really slow my speed. As we exit the tunnel, I don’t know what happened but the rig slammed into the sedan and spun it 90°. Then the rig continued pushing into the sedan as it tried to come to a stop. The sedan driver was enraged but also unable to get out as the rig was up against his door. Surprisingly no one seemed to be seriously injured. Believe me when I tell you traffic came to a screeching halt and I-90 Eastbound is going to be a hot mess until the crash is cleared.

I think I saw the aftermath. Did they all pull over on the left shoulder just east of the Mercer Isl Lid? Eastbound 90 was worse than usual and I was wondering if this was why.  Good driving Mr E. I wish more people were as aware and proactive as you and I.

Most of us moved to the right of the accident and called 911. A few drivers got out of their car to make sure the unfortunate drivers were all right. I think the driver in the sedan was ready to spar with the driver of the rig. The rig and the sedan were not moving, they were definitely blocking traffic in the far left lane. A few coworkers were late into the office because of the accident. I can only hope everyone was unharmed. Wish I could say the same about that sedan, though.

Sorry, comment time is over.
