From the ‘in case you wondered too’ file: Military-jet takeoff

We’ve just received a couple questions about a loud takeoff from Boeing Field within the past half-hour. According to flight trackers, it’s the military tanker-jet testing we first wrote about three months ago. (Hat tip, @civmilair.)

Nothing too unusual for Arbor Hts residents. Sometimes my pictures on the walls vibrate when they use a certain takeoff runway at Sea-Tac.

I wondered if maybe rocket launches were happening from Boeing field! It was loud.

That sound ain’t nothin – you should have been raised here with B52′ and rocket assist b47’s taking off from Boeing field back in the 50’s — schools teachers etc. just stopped talking inside classrooms till they were out of earshot.

You got that right Jim, when I was stationed at Hickam the Buffs (b-52’s) would refuel at wide open throttle, usually 10 at a time. I lived on base about two miles from the flightline, everything would shake for an hour.

I too have noticed a lot of really loud noise and vibrations coming from flight takeoffs lately. I remembered the blog post about the tests, but couldn’t recall the details.  Thanks for linking the original story. My windows and other things have been rattling too. It certainly contributes to stress levels! Sigh.

Sorry, comment time is over.
