FIRST REPORT, 7:17 AM: What started as an “illegal burn” call a few minutes after 7 is now upgraded to “fire in a building” at 4th and Roxbury. First crews on scene say it’s a “fully involved” car with flames spreading to the adjacent structure.

7:25 AM: The photo is via a texter who says this is not having a major effect on traffic so far.

7:31 AM: The fire is reported to be under control. No injuries – firefighters confirm everyone got out OK.

7:37 AM: We’ve just arrived in the area. This is in the residential area off the westbound side of Roxbury/Olson – more like 4th/Cambridge as shown on this map. There are a few SFD vehicles in the outside uphill lane at the curve.

8:03 AM: A closeup look (photo just added atop story) shows the fire spread from the car to the back of the house.

8:21 AM: Firefighters are wrapping up now; the fire’s cause remains under investigation, but SFD tells us that nobody knows whose car it is – it was parked behind the garage but does not belong to anyone in the area, so far as they’ve found.

WEDNESDAY EVENING NOTE: We’re still waiting to hear back from SFD on how the fire started and how much damage was done.

Theres a ton of cops at a house on 8th ave sw , between Barton and Roxbury. Anyone know whats happening?

Well, it’s not related to this. We’ve just stopped at HQ for a few minutes but were going back out so we’ll go by there to look. Best way to reach us if something’s happening NOW is always 206-293-6302, text or voice (and thanks to the people who texted about the fire just before we heard the sirens in the distance) …

Is Roxbury open to get to 99?

    • WSB March 16, 2016 (8:45 am)

Yes, no traffic effects at all, as also noted in our traffic coverage.

Meantime, AR, we just went through that entire area, no sign of police – if you’re in the area and still seeing them somewhere, please advise. Thanks!

If this is the one that I saw this morning on my way to 509 there was about 8 fire trucks and it was right next to my friends daycare. I’m sure those parents are concerned, it didn’t look like it was near it so that’s good. Two firemen were very on top of making sure it wasn’t anywhere near the daycare though, fire trucks parked in between the fire and the center. I’d be very grateful for the extra effort if it were my kids at the daycare.

Yes, that was the fire. No, the day-care facility was not involved at all.

My 11-month old attends the daycare, and I was concerned when I dropped him off this morning, as were other parents. The firefighters assured the daycare director that they did not need to evacuate. They seemed to have it under control, and I am VERY grateful.

I was wondering why there were so many fire trucks racing down 35th this morning. Now I know why.

Sorry, comment time is over.
