About the helicopter over West Seattle right now

We’ve received some questions about a helicopter that’s been flying over West Seattle for a while, despite the drippy weather. Here’s what we’ve found out: Online flight trackers say it’s a Department of Homeland Security Eurocopter. Since the Coast Guard is part of Homeland Security, we checked with District 13 Public Affairs, but they don’t have any aircraft up around Seattle right now. That’s all we know so far but we did want to at least let anyone interested know that it’s not Guardian One and it’s not TV. More if we find out anything else.

Got home about 10 mins ago and it was hovering above my apartment building at the corner of 35th and Morgan. Figured it was Guardian One out looking for someone.. guess not.

That’s the tracker we recently discovered … it’s been doing many, many laps, with a plane accompanying it, both about 3,000 feet up. Given the hour, and the fact that general DHS media inquiries are handled out of DC, I won’t be able to ask any more questions until next week, but I’m going to try! – TR

I just heard it overhead in Riverview. I went out just in time to see it head down towards Boeing field.

I was walking home from White Center Bartell’s probably about an hour after this was published and saw the chopper as I traveled along 15th, to home in the 9000 block of 16th.

Couldn’t spot it, at first, don’t know if it was above the clouds, or, since I needed to focus on the sidewalk rather than the sky, just didn’t have the chance to scan the sky more thoroughly.

When I first spotted it, it appeared to be hovering over the vicinity of 16th, between Cambridge & Barton, as I continued down 15th, getting closer to Barton, it appeared to be over 15th between Barton & Henderson, and seemed to be a bit lower, but not as low as G-1 typically seems to fly.

Any word on what was going on? I was just outside and two more helicopters were flying next to each other. They didn’t circle the area like last time, though.
