TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Post-holiday Tuesday

(Click any view for a close-up; more cameras on the WSB Traffic page)

6:33 AM: We start with Viaduct trouble – a reported car fire has closed northbound 99 at the Battery Street Tunnel.

6:40 AM: Whatever it was, it was short-lived – a WSB tipster confirms what SDOT has just tweeted, that the tunnel is already back open.

6:44 AM: One reminder for today – it’s the second and final day of Seattle Public Schools‘ abbreviated mid-winter break.

Noticed new traffic camera ? getting installed Saturday by QFC @ 42nd and Alaska. North side of intersection on light bar, facing south down 42nd. Wonder if SPD or SDOT has something planned. Hopefully it’s for light control issues.  But since SDOT has screwed up road design in area, maybe city is just installing new revenue machine and going to start ticketing people that don’t get cleanly trough intersections…: )

No, there are no new red light or speed cameras currently on the docket, here or anywhere else in the city. Someone else asked about this; there’s already been an SDOT traffic camera there for quite some time (it’s linked on our Traffic page) – we have to get over and take a look to see if it looks like one of theirs or possibly for private traffic surveying, before asking.

Sorry, comment time is over.
