TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Rainy Thursday updates

6:21 AM: Good morning! Give yourself extra time today – no incidents so far but the rain’s been heavy at times.

3 ROAD-WORK ALERTS: Here’s new information about the Delridge-Highland Park Greenway work … ongoing nighttime work on SW Alaska west of Fauntleroy … and the lane closures on Highway 99 north of downtown continue.

7:04 AM: Northbound 99 is slowing because of what SDOT says is a stall south of the Seneca exit.

7:14 AM: SDOT says that stall has now cleared, but “residual backups” remain a factor.

7:47 AM: SDOT now reports a crash at W. Marginal and Highland Park Way.

8:10 AM: Now, bridge trouble: SPD has just been dispatched to a stalled vehicle on the eastbound West Seattle Bridge, “at the high rise.”

8:29 AM: Mike says via Twitter that things are “backed up to The Junction.” MJR in comments says police are with the stalled vehicle and the bridge is “wide open” once you pass it.

9:31 AM: That stall, by the way, cleared before 9 am, per SDOT. As noted in comments, though, the bridge is still very slow going. And now a commenter reports a new stall.

Traffic unusually bad/slow on NB 98 this morning for some unknown reason

    • WSB January 21, 2016 (7:03 am)

SDOT reports a stall south of Seneca, adding.

Turns out to be a disabled pickup in the S-curves by the stadiums. No assistance in sight

  • RJB January 21, 2016 (7:01 am)

    NB 99 horrible…

  • Colleen January 21, 2016 (7:14 am)

It took an extra 15 mins at 625 this morning on the bus. Now I can’t even process how  bad.

  • newnative January 21, 2016 (7:15 am)

this is slowing bridge traffic and we have come to stop on the ramp a few times on the bus.

    • WSB January 21, 2016 (7:22 am)

Ouch, sorry to hear that. Thnks for the updates.

Left Belvidere 6: 35..Yes, I went by the stalled truck in the NB inside lane  halfway up the the elevated ramp to the Viaduct.  So glad I took the low level bridge than the 1st Ave and Royal Brougham  on ramp route. I zipped by all this effing garbage trucks parked on 99 N.  I arrived in Fremont  @ 7:05. A happy urban driver😀

Disabled vehicle mid-span center lane eastbound backing things up badly at this time.

Caught the 7:05 C-Line at Cali and Findlay, made the four stops before getting on the WS Bridge. Stopped at the 99NB on ramp and could see that 99NB was stopped as far as the eye could see. Yuck. Checked WSB and noted the stalled pickup. Texted co-workers to tell them I’d be late. then it all cleared up and I got to my desk at Olive/7th at 7:45. Not bad.

Just passed the stalled vehicle in center lane of the WS bridge.  Cop on scene. Take heart drivers, the bridge is wide open after the stall.

Can we ask Metro to move buses of the dangerous, backed-up Viaduct? How about using the busway between 4th and 6th?

  • Joe January 21, 2016 (8:48 am)

It’s sad what has become of commuting from West Seattle these past few years. No improvement in sight either.

  • Joe January 21, 2016 (9:14 am)

Is this another one of those 2 hours to clear a stall deals? Still backed up to 35th at 9:15.

  • Joe January 21, 2016 (9:25 am)

No stall in sight both lanes bumper to bumper from 35th to I5.

    • WSB January 21, 2016 (9:27 am)

SDOT tweeted that it was cleared as of 45 minutes ago. Sorry, I missed that, and it wasn’t mentioned on the scanner. There’s a more-recent stall reported at 1st and Spokane but nothing on the bridge aside from lots of vehicles..

  • Steph January 21, 2016 (9:27 am)

Stuck on the low bridge at Spokane and chelae. The light on the bridge that I can see from my vantage point hasn’t changed from red for at least 10 minutes. Been on the lower bridge route for 26 minutes without budging at all.

    • WSB January 21, 2016 (9:30 am)

Steph – @SDOTBridges says the low bridge JUST reopened to surface traffic, 9:27 am. So you should be moving again soon.

  • David January 21, 2016 (9:29 am)

A red pick up truck in front of me just stalled…….EB bridge @ Delridge

  • Joe January 21, 2016 (9:46 am)

Why don’t people turn on their lights on mornings like this? Gray clouds. Tons of rain and road spray. Clueless. It’s sort of a rhetorical question. It gets brought up often on the blog.

  • me on 28th Ave SW January 21, 2016 (9:52 am)

The poor guy in the disabled pickup in the S-curves by the stadiums, was there at 6:40 when I went past.  N99 was backed up almost immediately after getting off the bridge and on to N99 at 6:25.  I hate to think how long he sat there waiting for a tow.

  • Cynical girl January 21, 2016 (10:47 am)

Nice to see the rain doesn’t interfere with people driving and using their phones.

Sorry, comment time is over.
