UPDATE: Seattle Public Utilities crew fixing water line on westbound Admiral Way

5:54 PM: Texter says a crew is working on the inside outside westbound lane on Admiral Way at 39th SW, and that’s causing a backup down the hill past Admiral Way Viewpoint. We’re checking to see what it’s about.

6:35 PM: Thanks to Brent for the video. It’s a Seattle Public Utilities water crew; we’re now inquiring with SPU to confirm whether it’s a break, who’s affected, and how long they’re likely to be working.

6:53 PM UPDATE: SPU spokesperson Andy Ryan tells us a two-inch water line broke/is leaking, and the crew should be done by 8 pm.

7:44 PM UPDATE: That timeline might slide, as a particular type of truck was still being awaited as of a short time ago. Ryan says no one should be without water but the flow is “throttled back” so some might have reduced water pressure.

12:16 AM: Commenters say the crew’s still at work and now hoping to fix it by morning.

Sounded like a vac truck cleaning out a sewer/catch basin.

Thanks – Patrick should be there to check it out shortly.

The break is affecting water quality. Coming out of the tap brownish on 37th.

Water is still yellow! Belvedere neighborhood near 37th. Anyone know of SPU update? Is water potable?

Hi there – They might not be done. We drove through around 8:25 and the crew was still at work. Two things:
      .
Here’s SPU’s general advice about discolored water: http://www.seattle.gov/util/myservices/water/water_quality/watersourcescontaminants/discoloredwater/
      .
I don’t expect another update but as a customer you are certainly entitled to call SPU and ask for one (and consider letting us know what you hear as a customer!) 206-386-1800 is the number SPU has given us in previous situations, for customers to call if still experiencing problems. – Tracy

    No water on Grayson st….

  • mozabo January 6, 2016 (9:43 pm)

Isn’t that the same spot with water problems either last year or the year before?

  • ktrapp January 6, 2016 (11:36 pm)

It wasn’t even a year ago. There was an issue with water gushing out of the ground around that very location maybe in the Spring/Summer. A bad pipe breaking in a nearby spot? Or the previous fix failing?

Currently no water on 38th Ave, between Admiral and Olga. I can see and hear the crews still working out there…

Currently no water at 39th & Forest

Just got off the phone with Seattle Public Utilities. I was told that they do not have an ETA on when they’ll have the water back on, but that they will continue to work on it until it’s fixed.

We are at 38thSW &Lander. No water. I just talked to SPU water hotline. 2 inch line broken around 39th & Stevens. Hope to have it fixed before morning .

They finished up about 2 AM this morning and it finally quieted down. The work they were doing woke me up a little after 1 AM with what I imagine was filling in their big hole.

  • WSPK January 7, 2016 (7:35 am)

38th and Stevens; woke this morning to discolored water and air pockets in the pipes. Seattle Public Utilities doesn’t have any info on this on their website (or at least none that is easy to find), but once again, WSB comes through.

Well done WSB, for getting the word out, and good work, Public Utilities, for fixing the problem so fast!

On SW Grayson and 39th – any update on the water discoloration? Up until 8A today, water is still light brown even after letting the water run for 10 minutes.

Brown water up here at Alaska Junction at Oregon and 42nd Ave SW. We weren’t really sure what was happening, so thanks for reporting on it earlier. Any time frame of when our water should be back to normal and is it safe to drink right now? We might have to go to the store to get some bottled water.

    • WSB January 7, 2016 (8:35 pm)

REB – I don’t think the Admiral line break from last night would be affecting you, in my experience covering these things. Please call SPU at the number I mentioned earlier. And if they say a new water break is being worked on, please let us know (you can post here or e-mail editor@westseattleblog.com) – I haven’t heard of anything going on tonight. – TR

Sorry, comment time is over.
