LATE-NIGHT TRAFFIC ALERT UPDATE: Beach Drive crash

11:23 PM: A crash is blocking Beach Drive both ways in the 5300 block (map)- and as you know if you’ve driven it, the stretch south of Jacobsen has few outlets. No other details about the crash so far.

11:56 PM: Thanks to Christine for the photo, added above. She says two cars were involved, one apparently speeding, and that one person was taken from the scene by ambulance.

12:08 AM: Scanner traffic indicates Beach Driver either has reopened or will shortly.

Looked bad. Lots of emergency vehicles.

I walk Beach Drive (the southern portion) almost daily and am appalled by the speed at which some people travel on that stretch of road. I often pull over to let the light flashing, tailgating crazies go around. Please slow down, signal your intentions and think of those that live in the neighborhood as you pass through…

I have repeatedly called for a reduction of speed on this road to 25mph, and enforce it with photo radar. The area is simply too densely populated and popular with bicycles to justify a 30mph limit that isn’t even enforced.

11:23 pm? Wonder if one of the drag racers I keep hearing at night was involved.

Sorry, comment time is over.
