High-school basketball: Seattle Lutheran and Shorewood Christian split showdown

A crosstown showdown resulted in split results last night at Seattle Lutheran High School. The SLHS boys scored a big win over visiting Shorewood Christian:

In the early game, the final score was 41-35.

With 27 seconds left in regulation, Shorewood’s #3 Rosie Young (photo above; second-leading scorer for SCHS with 19) put up a 3-pointer that put the Lions up 33-30. But Lutheran’s #15 Abbi Sanders (photo below; Saints’ leading scorer with 20) got a buzzer-beating 3 pointer that tied the game at 33-all.

Shorewood dominated OT and took the victory. The Lions’ top scorer was #21 Shelaine Lorenz. Second scorer for SeaLu, #10 Taylor Stordahl with 7.

This was (updated) one of the last home games for SLHS head coach Bruce Carlson, who is retiring after more than 30 years.

Now to the boys’ game – the Saints, under head coach Brett Kapels, won big, 72-50, led by #34 Josh Meyer with 24 points:

    Thanks for covering the games last night.  Two action packed games!  Coach Carlson’s last regular season home game is actually Feb 2nd at 6pm.

      Sorry, that’s what we had thought and then someone there told us otherwise, but I should have checked the calendar. Will update to “one of his last home games.”
