JUNCTION BIZNOTES: Sound Credit Union, Dumplings of Fury

Two quick West Seattle Junction biznotes:

SOUND CREDIT UNION OPENS: Six months after we reported that Sound Credit Union would open a branch at 4730 California, SCU says it’s now open, with “a 24-hour deposit-taking, walk-up ATM, (and) Saturday hours.” It’s the Tacoma-headquartered credit union’s third location in Seattle, 24th in all, and its membership is open “to anyone who lives or works in Washington State.”

DUMPLINGS OF FURY SIGNAGE: Thanks to Kathleen for the tip via Twitter that the sign on the upcoming eatery at 4302 SW Oregon was going up this morning. We went over at midday for a photograph:

When last we checked in with the proprietors, they were hoping to open around the first of the year.

…we wanted to do something different for West Seattle.

By using marketing that perpetuates a stereotype? Groundbreaking.

  • DumplingLover December 14, 2015 (2:57 pm)

YES!!! W. Seattle needed this for a long time!

Name of the year award! Hope their food generates comparable buzz.

I’m with you, Mr E (mystery?). I was hoping they would name it the “dough filled with meat restaurant” or something catchy like that so as not to offend anyone. I’d suggest “Potsticker Palace” but then they could only sell potstickers and someone that lives in an actual palace might be offended. Anyway, Merry Christmas Mr E! I love the name.

    …a stereotype of deliciousness!

But seriously…stop appropriating the orientalism. You’re microaggressing me…or something. Gonna go take a nap in my “safe space.”

    Horrible choice of font.

  • S December 14, 2015 (3:45 pm)

Agree with Mr E. Together with the Bruce Lee posters, the signage is pretty tasteless. Hoping the food is better than it appears from outside, but this place won’t be getting business from me.

As an Asian American Athiest . . . Bring on Dumplings of Fury and Merry Christmas to all!
Should Buddha Ruksa remove all of their Buddha art and statues too? FFS people.

I think anyone who doesn’t appreciate the delightful, sarcastic wit in the name “Dumplings of Fury” is simply beyond hope. If the offerings provide a similar zing and satisfaction we’ll all be better for it.

Cant wait to check out the cool décor, love the name!

  • Mike December 14, 2015 (5:43 pm)

If it exists, there are complaints about it on the internet.

  • Jim December 14, 2015 (5:51 pm)

Mike, “It” is such a confusing word, leaving my befuddled mind to figure out what it you were referring to. There are better word choices to get your point across.;-)

  • waikikigirl December 14, 2015 (5:55 pm)

    Mr. E and S,
Anata no uteru koto wa kudaranai

  • HappyOnAlki December 14, 2015 (7:14 pm)

I’m betting Mike’s “it” means the same as “something” — but “it” fits the bill perfectly.

  • Kokowadoko December 14, 2015 (9:05 pm)

@ Waikiki: Sore wa honto da yo

  • LyndaB December 14, 2015 (11:11 pm)

Is “Mr. E” a reference to the Nickelodeon cartoon “Recess”? I miss that show.

  • Wsea98116 December 14, 2015 (11:59 pm)

Dumplings are tasty, the sign and name are very cool, and Bruce Lee is beyond super-cool!’
Perhaps E and S would prefer a soft, bland Applebee’s..

  • Matt S. December 15, 2015 (12:07 am)

A literal and figurative good sign. You can tell it was done thoughtfully, which is refreshing in a sea of typographic negligence!

  • Wsgal December 15, 2015 (6:31 am)

Seriously? You won’t visit a restaurant because of their sign? that’s disgusting and a downright community disappointment. Let’s all hope you just stay home and complain about things, versus gracing us with your positive, welcoming presence.

  • newnative December 15, 2015 (8:23 am)

WsGal, that’s the best we can hope for. It is a small space and would be terrible to have a Customer of Fury in there. Isn’t Bruce Lee from Seattle anyways?

  • savoirfaire December 15, 2015 (8:44 am)

I think the name is a nice homage to a local hero who many people felt broke stereotypes (plus it’s funny–furious dumplings!). With the folks at Shadowland behind it, I’m sure the dumplings will be furiously good; cannot wait for this place to open.

  • WSince86 December 16, 2015 (10:14 am)

Comments of Fury…. Wouldn’t be The Blog without them! There’s always someone!

  • @MattGilbezy December 17, 2015 (7:15 am)

No clue if this place is going to be good (I really hope so) but based on the name alone they have my business.

Also, if this and the outside world offends (and scares) you, please find a nice hole to live in and let the rest of us enjoy it. #NoBodyLikesADebbieDowner
