TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Stormy Tuesday updates and alerts

(Five WS-relevant views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
7:11 AM: Sorry about the lack of camera views for the high bridge – you might recall that SDOT was replacing them last weekend, and this morning, neither is working. So far, though, while the wind has kicked up as expected, no major problems in or from West Seattle.

7:51 AM: Still nothing out of the ordinary around here – all the trouble this morning has been on the Eastside. Weather-wise, we haven’t hit the peak period yet – the National Weather Service has shifted the “High Wind Warning” to 8 am-6 pm, with strongest gusts expected to start around 10.

8:50 AM: First power outage of the storm, and it’s a big one, more than 4,800 customers. We’ve launched a separate storm report, starting with the outage – find it here. And if there’s storm trouble in your neighborhood – trees down, etc. – please let us know at 206-293-6302 (text or voice).

today is an extra good day to be aware of your surroundings while driving. (Gold Honda Odyssey minivan, I am talking to you) also, there are trash cans blown all over the place as an additional road hazard.

‘Nothing out of the ordinary’. So, stop and go bridge traffic backed up past Nucor and buses too full to pick up passengers is the new ‘normal’- good to know. Blergh.

Unfortunately, bridge gridlock during the outbound commute has been ordinary going back to when we arrived in the early ’90s. Wasn’t trying to be flip – just meant “no specific incidents.”

Covering the outage separately here – https://westseattleblog.com/?p=329413 – and any other storm effects that ensue, now that it’s getting even more intense out there. Thanks. – TR

We very rarely lose our power…. knock on wood. Lights just flickered though. Charging up phones now just in case. We live on 35th at 98th.

  • justducky November 17, 2015 (8:45 am)

Just lost power in Morgan junction…even after they upgraded the system earlier this year.

It seems these big wind events always happen an hour after our trash is picked up so the cans and lids go flying. Don’t know who’s fault it is but I suspect Obama or road diets!

Power outage in Alki, Beach Dr, west of 49th Ave SW down to Fauntleroy.

  • Bob E November 17, 2015 (8:53 am)

Power is out in the Charleston – 54th Ave area

  • sam-c November 17, 2015 (8:55 am)

Oh, I know bridge traffic is normal, sorry. Was just hoping there was some reason to explain why it seemed a LITTLE WORSE than ‘normal’.

  • WesCAddle November 17, 2015 (8:56 am)

Pretty significant power outage in West Seattle now. Just in time for the storm…

Also, does anyone else have trouble viewing the WSB on an iPad? It’s sized all wrong, huge pictures and small text…all other websites working normally.

Just came across ws bridge about 940. Eastbound was backing up and all the way past delridge on ramp and starting to back up the hill toward fauntleroy.

Slippy bike commute today. Watch out bikers for man hole covers and leaves in the turns.

Everyone seemed in good spirits considering the lower bridge was open and the top bridge was backed up. Made my commute a little more enjoyable.
