Site trouble: In case something seems to be missing…

Tonight we’ve been dealing with some issues related to technical trouble last night and in the process our technical assistants had to restore the site to a point that went back to about 5:40 pm tonight. We hadn’t published any new stories since then but we do appear to have lost some comments and Forum replies published since then – they might not be recoverable. The forums, which had borne the brunt of last night’s trouble, had to be restored to a somewhat earlier point. Again, please forgive us; thank you!

Are you kidding?!?! You Folks do such an awesome job, I think a few missing rants/raves/comments are most “forgivable”. Give yourselves a break!

The entire site, of course, is such a great community asset, but the Forum is a reader requested add-on, and you have gone above and beyond, in keeping its rickety ol’ self going, despite the fact that it is ancient, discontinued, technology.

I know the horror of losing data. It is one thing when it is your own and another when someone is looking at you with expectation that it will be restored. I think most have at least lost data of their own.

Instead of “please forgive us”, I think you should say “If you made a comment in the last 4 hours and still think it worthwhile, please repost.”

No need to spend hours trying to recover something that took people seconds (sometimes less than that) to think of and minutes to write!
