ELECTION UPDATE: Braddock still leads Herbold in City Council District 1

The newest round of election results is out – and Shannon Braddock is still ahead of Lisa Herbold in the City Council District 1 race, though now by fewer than 100 votes:

Braddock – 49.99% – 11125 votes
Herbold – 49.57% – 11030 votes

(For comparison, here’s the final count from last week.) Next count, 4:30 pm tomorrow. The county’s full results list says 24,699 ballots have been counted in the District 1 race, and its most recent ballot-return statistics say 27,512 ballots were ready to count from this district, which suggests more than 2,800 ballots are yet to be counted.

Ok, now I think they’re just messing with us at elections HQ…. only 451 votes were counted in this race since the Friday drop. The last time so few were counted in D1 was the 3 hour gap between wednesday 4PM and 7PM.

Well, regardless of who you wanted in this race, if you ever wondered why people spend countless hours trying to get you to actually take the 5 minutes to vote, THIS is why. :-)

Cool map — currently based on where things stood on Friday (Herbold-leaning precincts in red, Braddock-leaning precincts in blue): http://tinyurl.com/qalfmm5.

And to think that I questioned why they weren’t working over the weekend to complete the election counts.

Great. I dont want either of them! So I did not vote for District 1. Hope this drags out for along time. Neither of them care about West Seattle.

Steve, I wish you were more clear about what you like or dislike. Were you hoping for a more conservative option? And what purpose does dragging out the final tally serve?

It takes a lot of courage and effort to run for political office these days. I wish only the best to whichever candidate ends up winning this race. We all want & need West Seattle and surrounding areas to be a healthy, vibrant place.

Steve – Both candidates clearly care about District 1 else they would not be running for election and by definition live in the district. However, If you said that neither candidate has a vision or track record that I can get behind (at least enough to vote for them), I would agree hole heartedly.

    Well stated, Paul. Both comments.

I believe she does care and I say this because we recently have had personal experience working with Lisa on an issue involving SDOT. She had great follow through and was effective in breaking the gridlock we were experiencing . This took place via her role as assistant to Nick Licata, but it gave us a taste of what kind of person she is and what we could expect from her if she becomes our representative.

Just a different flavor of progressive/liberal. Not sure either one makes any difference.

Sorry, comment time is over.
