ELECTION UPDATE: 11 more ballots in the Seattle City Council District 1 race, now a 25-vote gap

Eleven more ballots were added to the Seattle City Council District 1 vote totals before today’s results came out a short time ago – five for Shannon Braddock, six for Lisa Herbold, who now is 25 votes ahead:

Lisa Herbold – 12,428 – 49.72%
Shannon Braddock – 12,403 – 49.62%

As noted previously, the election is now down to ballots that have problems such as signature verification; if that happened to your ballot, there’s still time – until the election is certified next Tuesday – for you to fix it and have your vote count. If you haven’t checked on yours, you can do that here – but this is important: The last message it will give is that your ballot “will be counted.” It will never say “has been counted.” If it says “will be counted,” that means you’ve been verified.

So I just checked and the tracking website still says that my ballot , my wife’s ballot still have not been counted. Sure is taking a long tome for an automated system

If it really said “has not been counted” – then please call the county (I believe the link includes a #). If it said “will be counted,” please see what I wrote above – that is the last confirmation message you’ll get. And unless there was a signature problem, in which case they would have contacted you, then it has been counted by now. The only ones left are the problem ballots.

So, reading the county’s website info about recounts, it’s clear that “requested recounts” are to happen after the election certification date, but it’s not really clear when the county starts doing that for a “mandatory” recount. Does that not happen until after the ballot repair deadline/”next Tuesday” too ?

Yeah, I was wondering about the timing/feasibility of a recount, too. I found http://www.king5.com/story/news/politics/city/2015/11/16/seattles-district-1-race-likely-headed-for-recount/75905090/, which says there’s a Nov 23rd deadline for signature challenge issues, after which a hand recount will happen if the results are within .25% of each other, which it certainly looks like it will be. Those results would take a week to get, plus the Thanksgiving break.

Sorry, comment time is over.
