TRAFFIC/TRANSIT TODAY: Thursday updates, alerts, previews

(Four WS-relevant views; more cams on the WSB Traffic page)
No incidents so far this morning, in West Seattle or on the primary outbound routes. But we do have a bus-trip cancellation:

Our followup with Metro, originally scheduled for last Thursday but postponed because of the Aurora Bridge crash, is now set for today – any specific questions or observations, please comment or e-mail us – thank you. By the way, video of the City Council meeting at which the cancellations were discussed is finally up, here.

BRIDGE WORK THIS WEEKEND: If you missed the announcement – road repair following Seattle Public Utilities sewer work is scheduled to start 7 pm Friday and continue through Sunday, closing the inside lane in each direction on the Fauntleroy end of the bridge.

8:52 AM NOTE – TRAFFIC TALK: So far, still no incidents. So we’re mentioning that a participant in the WSB Forums has opened a general “traffic talk” topic, if you’re looking for a place to discuss (and/or vent) not tied to a daily issue/incident – find it here.

    I would like Jeff Switzer or someone from Metro operations to explain what other bus routes are served out of the Central Base and if applicable, as I’m sure it is, I want an explanation as to why the only routes out of the Central Base that have suffered repeated cancellations (or maybe ANY cancellations) are the 55/56/57.

    We’re supposed to be getting better, more reliable bus service from the additional money, not less. I’m so tired of the mess at Metro. I hope the people of Seattle have finally learned a lesson that throwing money at the people who manage Metro isn’t a solution and vote down the next request until Metro makes some real changes with real results.

      Thanks!

    I second what olivist is requesting. We all need to know what the heck is going on. Voters (I voted against the money to Metro as I already know they waste money) agreed to give Metro more money to fix their incompetent issues only to see that it’s being wasted and nothing has changed.

    WTF!!! SDOT wants to remove parking on Admiral Way, and Metro won’t service this area with bus routes. Something stinks.

  • JGSwan October 1, 2015 (8:37 am)

    In addition to the unpredictable morning service on the 57 highlighted above, the evening (West Seattle-bound) runs of the 57 are frequently 15-30 minutes late. The 5:49 PM departure from 3rd and Pike is almost never punctual and it causes 57 riders to take other routes and walk home, fearing that they have missed it completely. (The bus will sometimes appear in West Seattle later in the evening.)

    Why does this happen, will Metro be doing anything to improve evening service, and why did Metro not change departure times with the recent schedule update if the on-time record is so poor?

    I agree that we deserve some accountability. If the routes are suffering equally, we should be shown something that proves that. I hope some rich east side neighborhood with less ridership isn’t unfairly benefitting from our loss. I agree that the 57/56 has poor on-time reliability.

    Rescind the Urban Village designation for the Admiral District please.

  • Northwest October 1, 2015 (1:41 pm)

    Admiral District as far as neighborhood community representation thru ANA is far more organized and has member involvement ,not belittling neighboring groups at all, to handle growth and the problems that come along with it. Want to have change CharlieG in West Seattle’s Urban Village maybe you sir need to get involved.

    Re. Traffic conditions on West Sea. There is SO MUCH CONSTRUCTION GOING ON on California Ave. Nearing Safeway going from Ca/Alaska Junction, it was only a matter of time before NAILS WERE PUNCTURING TIRES. WE MISSED A 5 PM DR APPT bc of a NAIL IN OUR TIRE. Clearly a construction nail: no head on the nail. Have to reschedule appt. Beware in that area. Ugh. :-{

Sorry, comment time is over.
