ELECTION 2015 UPDATES: One-month countdown begins

The general election is November 3rd – exactly one month away – with ballots going into the mail in a week and a half. Two notes tonight:

CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT 1 – FLURRY OF FORUMS

Both finalists, Shannon Braddock and Lisa Herbold, were at the city’s “Find It, Fix It” walk on Saturday morning:

At one point in the introductory speeches, it sounded as if Mayor Murray was inviting both to come up to the podium – but they stayed in the crowd. Saturday night, both were due to participate in the Inspire Seattle candidates’ forum at a private residence in West Seattle. If you weren’t there, don’t fret – at least four more chances to see them side by side:

-This Tuesday (October 6th), 6:30 pm at Fauntleroy UCC Church (9140 California SW), presented by the Westside Interfaith Network and League of Women Voters

-Tuesday, October 13th, 6:15 pm, Neighborhood House’s High Point Center (6400 Sylvan Way), presented by the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce and WS Transportation Coalition

-Wednesday, October 14th, 7 pm, The Hall at Fauntleroy (9131 California SW), presented by the 34th District Democrats

-Thursday, October 15th, 6:30 pm, High Point Library (35th SW & SW Raymond)

REGISTERED TO VOTE?

If you’re not registered – this Monday (October 5th) is the deadline to get it done online. Just go here.

I love that Delridge shirt Shannon is wearing! Reminds me that I need to buy one.

I used your links to both candidates websites. Thanks. While they were my least favorite candidates in the primary (because of their close connections to the current power structure) i am in general agreement with both on most issues. Their sites give good specific positions on many issues, but on the controversial ones they get very vague, stating we need to develop strategies, etc.. Now is the time to give us specifics about what they do or don’t support concerning up zoning(12 story buildings in the junction, etc.), loss of parking and lanes on our arterial streets in favor of bike paths, no parking developments, and very specific suggestions to get the citizens of west seattle in and out of our neighborhood (and i mean things to actually do, not plan). Thank you in advance.

Mark, a clue is when they say they will work toward “multi modal” they mean take away from car lanes and give to transit and bikes.

    Mark and DSA,
One of the pluses of the new council districts is that the candidates are both of our community and neighborhoods, and therefore should be more approachable. I urge you to attend the forums, and if your question isn’t answered during the formal Q and A, then try to get face time with the candidates after the formal events conclude. If that isn’t possible, email the candidates with your questions. I emailed Shannon, she responded and even offered to meet me for coffee to discuss further. I didn’t take her up on the offer, and I doubt they can do that with every voter (this was a slower period directly after the primary). But it was a really good indicator that she offered.

Lisa Herbold has put out tons of specific detailed position papers on many topics

Hi, I am really frustrated with the 35th SW road diet and will try to attend the session Tuesday night. I sent Shannon an email but have not been able to find an email address for Lisa Herbold. Does anyone have one for her?

  • Scott October 6, 2015 (9:54 am)

@Judi – I agree the 35th road diet is frustrating. They have taken traffic from 2 lanes to one and thus backups are two blocks long. I can’t even pull out sometimes and make lefts onto my street. Also it looks like the lights have not been updated. This was a dumb idea and whoever authorized this should be fired.

to me, it seems that traffic is not that bad on 35th during the times I am on the street. But, I do agree with Scott, sometimes it seems you will NEVER get an opportunity to turn onto 35th from a side street, now that all the cars are in that one lane.

Sorry, comment time is over.
