What all the digging’s about at Southwest Pool and Seacrest Pier

We’ve just dug up details on two Seattle Parks projects you might have noticed:

(Seattle Parks photo)
SOUTHWEST POOL/TEEN LIFE CENTER/NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICE CENTER: You’re being asked to enter via the south side while this work is happening on the north side of the building at 2801 SW Thistle. A leaky water pipe was detected, and has to be replaced; once that’s done, the cement that’s being removed to get to the faulty pipe will have to be replaced, and this is all expected to continue for another week and a half.

SEACREST PIER: Remember last year’s controversy after the city temporarily shut off the Seacrest shower used by divers, because it drains into Puget Sound? Parks mentioned a “permanent solution” was being sought, and this project is apparently it.

When the work is done, the shower will drain into the sewer system instead. The $71,500 project is expected to be complete by the end of next month. (Thanks to Paul for the tip.)

A $71,500 shower! Next to one of the crumbiest restrooms. This better be the nicest shower in all the land.

So the divers get out of the Sound, shower in treated city water to rinse off Sound water – that we don’t want going into the Sound…where it came from? Isn’t the water that they’re rinsing with, from the city, clean already? Isn’t the water that is on them, from being in the Sound ok to go back into the Sound?

Then there’s the city’s worry that the fish cleaning sink also needs an update ($,$$$?) so fish that live and die and pee and etc won’t pollute the Sound they live in when they’re gutted ever once in awhile by a lucky human? Wha? SO are all the fish that are eaten by orca, die naturally or are eagle food polluting the Sound right now?

This is yet another example of the wasting of our tax money on boondoggles by buffoons in government. Just a ridiculous “solution” to a non-issue.

If you follow our link to last year’s coverage, AO, you will note that it is/was an “issue” because of state law with which the city apparently was not complying.

ITS AN ABSOLUTE SHAME WHAT WE LET GO INTO PUGET SOUND LAST WEEK WALKING ALONG THE SHORLINE OF OLYMPIC SCULPTURE PARK AFTER HEAVY RAIN TIDE OBVIOUSLY RECEDING LEFT ALOT OF MIRCO-LITTER PLASTICS ALL ALONG THE BEACH MIXED AMONGST SEAWEED AND DRIFTWOOD. THE CITY PUTS EFFORT INTO USELESS UTILITIES LIKE THE SHOWER FOR DIVERS YET DAILY OR ANNUALLY TONS OF TOXICS ENTER THESE VERY WATERS, MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.

Sorry, comment time is over.
