West Seattle Crime Watch: Possible church burglary/theft; Roxhill Park robbery report; Fauntleroy assault

Incidents we’ve been tracking tonight:

11:13 PM: Police are responding to the Westside Unitarian Universalists Congregation church in Gatewood (7141 California SW) right now after a report of a possible burglary/theft. The Guardian One helicopter is in the area and offered to help search for a possible suspect, so you might hear it shortly. No description at this point beyond “unknown race male” in a hoodie.

11:20 PM: The helicopter’s in the area now.

11:29 PM: And it’s moved on, while police continue investigating on the ground.

****

11:50 PM: **Separate incident** but while we have this Crime Watch report open, we’re adding it. Police are investigating a report of someone being robbed at Roxhill Park. No aerial search in this case – the trail was quite cold, as the victim did not report it until getting home about half an hour later. (We have no further info on this one but more often than not, street robberies have a reporting lag because the robber[s] take the victim’s phone.)

****

12:44 AM: **Separate incident** Police rushed to Fauntleroy after multiple calls about someone screaming for help. After trying to figure out where exactly it happened, they found a victim in the 8600 block of 46th SW, a 21-year-old woman who is reported to have been assaulted. SFD is en route to evaluate her injuries. Police are trying to sort out what happened.

I’m right up the street on Othello and the chopper has been circling repeatedly for over 10 minutes.

was there any consideration that the suspect is reading this and getting rid of his hoodie

Outside motion detector lights came on twice a while ago – on Frontenac – west of the church. Coinkidink?

I love the WBS. Helicopters? WSBlog. Boom. Instant knowledge.
I hope they find them; as a neighbor they are such a great congregation in the community.
^Good night Don (and yes, if they were smart they’d be tuned into the blog. Theft rings are, however individuals rarely are) ! – Your neighbors downstairs.

We have long promised that we will share any descriptive information available, however fragmentary. And so we do. More likely a mention like that could be helpful if someone happened to see someone walk by oh say 15 minutes earlier, long before we even tuned into what was going on (or before the possible crime was even called in), and might have been able to at least report a direction of travel. But with the helicopter overhead, hoodie or no hoodie, ANYONE in the area would have been detected by the technology it has – in the recent deadly North Burien crash, which we covered on our White Center site, G-1 quickly found the fled-the-scene driver hiding under a vehicle in a nearby driveway. Tonight, they did not detect anyone, and therefore flew on out of the area. – TR

I am one of the people who called about the Young woman screaming. It was near Cloverdale & 46th and it sounded like a lot of young people fighting. It took forever for the police to get there. I could not see the incident only hear it. It was very disturbing and I do hope she is ok.

Is the Parks Dept. going to change the park hours for Roxhill Park like they did for Hamilton VP? Based on complaints by the nearby residents, they close the viewpoint now at 10 pm hoping to reduce crime.

GEEZ do you (WSB) ever get any sleep?! :>( with this great weather that’s hanging around it’ll keep the “bad guys” out and about so I think you all won’t be getting much rest…

    WSB,
Can you find out more about the assault on 46th last night? My husband and I feel awful we didn’t get dressed and walk up the block and assist the young woman.

BB – unfortunately I can’t find an incident number so far – which could mean many things – if it was considered domestic violence, for example, it will not show up in the Twitter log, on which I’m reliant for incident #’s, but I’ll keep watching. And all the SFD log can indicate is that they responded, not what the disposition was. – TR

To Sanders, I was just at the viewpoint last night at 10:40 showing a friend and the gate was wide open. I looked at the hours and it still read 11:00pm so I doubt there was a change.

Was there a theft or was it just suspicious activity in the area, because we were leaving The Building which is next door, and saw the black man in the hoodie talking on a phone and then two more cars pulled up one with a white female and one with a white male, who got out and were wondering around the building. It seemed strange that they were there so late but the guy in the hoodie said hi and seemed friendly. It did seem odd though,

    • WSB September 12, 2015 (12:40 pm)

Rawkergrrrl, I have no way to know the roles of any of the people you mention, and certainly the hoodie doesn’t make the person the possible suspect who was mentioned (heck, I was wearing a hoodie about that time last night), but checking the police Twitter log, the final classification on this call was “burglary.” Report details won’t be available online for days, though, the system still moves slowly … TR

  • Rawkergrrrl September 12, 2015 (4:14 pm)

I was wearing a hoodie too. The guy in the hoodie seemed the least sketchy.

Sorry, comment time is over.
