West Seattle weather watch: Early-morning thunder & lightning

3:02 AM: Yes, that was thunder you just heard (maybe it woke you up). We noticed lightning to the southwest a little while ago, and now the thunderstorm is getting closer. This short-term weather alert from the National Weather Service says the activity is likely to continue until 5 am or so; showers are expected throughout the day, with up to a quarter-inch of rain, per the newest forecast.

5:07 AM: Another thunderstorm is moving through right now.

Did anyone else just hear gunshots in the junction?

    • WSB August 14, 2015 (3:59 am)

Someone thought they heard possible shots in/from Alki. No one’s been shot anywhere, that we can tell you. Any time you think you hear gunshots, please call 911, because the volume and direction of calls helps them figure out if something happened or not – also, you might get reassurance that it was fireworks, which is often reported to be the case.

Yes it happened close to us

  • Paul O August 14, 2015 (5:02 am)

I’m in the Junction and heard 5 rapid shots at around 3:25 AM, which sounded close by, followed by a vehicle with a loud car muffler. I couldn’t tell the direction or location.

So far no indication of police confirming gunfire – if anyone finds shell casings or property damage, please let them (and us) know.

We heard gunshots near 61st and Admiral earlier this week (Monday? 5am) reported them to 911 and WSBlog – never heard anything about them. Did anyone? Disconcerting to think 8-10 gun shots go unnoticed.

Glad to know the thunder was real, thought I was dreaming!

I heard the gunshots too! I thought it was 4 shots in rapid succession. -California and Dakota

Sarah, Mark & Paul, we heard the shots as well. Sounded like it happened right by us on 44th & Oregon. My husband thought he saw a blue/black car.

Our local beat feed on Twitter reports a “disturbance” call at around 4:30am.

    ‏@SeattlePDW2 3h3 hours ago
    Beat:W2, DISTURBANCE, OTHER at 41XX BLOCK OF 44 AV SW reported on 8/14/2015 4:27 AM, Call# 15000281982

“Disturbance” is the usual classification for something like this, when people think they heard gunshots or fireworks or some other kind of loud noise but responding officer(s) can’t verify what it was. But if anyone finds shell casings or bullet hole(s) at any point, do call police again – we covered an incident a while back in Admiral where the proof didn’t turn up until late the next day, in the street … TR

FYI….the noise several of us heard last night @ 3:25am around the junction area definitely was not thunder. Woke me and several of my neighbors up. One neighbor reported hearing the shots and hearing a car speed away. The sound was definitely gun shots (repeated 3 or 4 times back to back).

Woke up to the really loud thunder and rain at 3am. I too heard 5 or 6…. something. I thought it was fire crackers??? Could have been shots i suppose. Yikes. I’m a few blocks east of west seattle high school.

Yes, I heard gunshots, I am at 44th & Genesee. Looked out the window and a little later a black car went by fast heading north on 44th with the lights out. Then turned on their lights about a block later.

A Police cruiser came by about a half hour later.

  • MLJ August 14, 2015 (9:55 am)

The shots were also at a uniform interval…so…automatic.

  • Paul Taegel August 14, 2015 (12:21 pm)

So it was either a carefully orchestrated shooting spree at 325 in several locations by several gunmen, none of whom were seen and leaving no bullet holes, shell casings, or bodies. Or it was thunder.

  • MercyMoi August 14, 2015 (12:23 pm)

Okay – that’s what woke me up. I thought I heard someone knocking four or five times rapidly – on metal. I looked out the window but didn’t see anyone and the motion detector light didn’t go off. I can see 44th & Edmunds from my window, no cars or pedestrians. I thought I dreamed it. This was about 3:30am, after the thunder roll.

  • Mark August 14, 2015 (2:52 pm)

No Paul. The noises on 44th Ave was not thunder. I know what a gunshot sounds like and also seeing people getting into a car leaving the scene was not imagined.

  • Mark August 14, 2015 (2:55 pm)

Mercy the location of the car that left the area was between Oregon and Genessy. Multiple neighbors saw the vehicle speed off.

Sorry, comment time is over.
