West Seattle Crime Watch: Alki police response; Belvidere vandalism

Two notes in West Seattle Crime Watch this afternoon:

(Added: WSB photo)
SUSPECTED STOLEN CAR: If you’re seeing a big police response in the Alki area, police were pulling over (or otherwise dealing with) a suspected stolen car, which usually calls for a “felony stop” response, guns drawn. Via the scanner, police report detaining two people, and searching for a passenger who got out of the car and “walked away” in the 56th/Alki area – only description so far, “18-year-old white male, white shirt, green stripes, Seattle Sonics hat.”

BELVIDERE VANDALISM: Here’s a reader report about an odd case of vandalism on 37th SW sometime during the day on the 4th of July:

Since this is a relatively unique act of vandalism, we thought we would reach out to the blog in case it has happened to others in West Seattle and as a precaution to other residents (although there is really no way to safeguard against this type of crime.)

On Sat we came home at 6:30 PM to a running hose that had been cut. The water was turned on and the hose was intentionally and cleanly cut causing the running water to seep into our foundation and eventually into our lower level where it has caused significant damage. We filed a police report and heard from the neighbor that he saw a 25-30 year old white male with a blue shirt and dirty blonde hair on our back deck around 1:00-3:00 that afternoon. (We weren’t home from 10:00-6:30 on the 4th.) There were no signs of a potential break-in and we have an alarm system which was armed and not triggered. Thankfully, this was the only damage that was done. However, it has caused significant damage to our property and it is highly likely that it was completely random.

That is strange. I dont know your location but 37th is near that area where the young homeless have been camping under the bridge (again). Im on Belvidere and my surveilance cam showed a person similar to your description. Acting suspicious I should add. Sorry to hear of your damage. I appreciate the heads up. And will keep an eye out.

The meth head with the blond dreads—this gentleman was accused of beating someone with a lock and chain a couple years back—has been frequenting the alleyways of West Seattle of late. Saw him today by the library near admiral with a buddy and (of course) a pitbull on a chain.

Ok that just sounds way too intentional to be a random act of vandalism, and then to top it off the car thief who got away was wearing a Sonics hat. The only plausible explanation is that this heat wave has finally burned a hole into the space time continuum. (Or maybe just some people’s brains.)
Sorry to hear about the innocent people’s house and the car though…

If you’re concerned about this happening again, there are faucet locks available. Do a Google search for “faucet lock” or “hose bibb lock” and they’ll come up. There are several different styles, pick whatever works for your installation.

Very, very odd bit of vandalism..

@Wild One: What does the guy wearing a Sonics hat have anything to do with anything? lol “to top it off”…

A cleanly cut hose— Perhaps for gas siphoning? Leaving the water on—could be an attempt at leaving a signature, like the burglars in the movie Home Alone? Maybe I’ve just been watching too many movies. So sorry to hear about the damage! That’s a real bummer. Will keep an eye out.

Hopefully SPD reads this… but reportedly, “they” have placed a wood ladder next to the new cyclone fence that cant seem to be destroyed.

Exactly Brian. I own a Sonics hat and I’m a law abiding, home owner, raising a family. That was just a ridiculous comment

Sounds to me like the blonde guy may have cut the hose to use for siphoning gas, like the other poster said. Probably turned the water on to get a drink or rinse himself off, then was too lazy and inconsiderate to turn the water back off.

I think the Sonics comment was more along the lines of “burned a hole into the space time continuum.” Because, you know, the Sonics exist in the past and future, but not in the present.

Same blond guy was in the Seaview neighborhood about 2 weeks ago looking in cars and acting very strange. Myself and another woman saw him in the morning and she called the police, but I doubt anything ever came of it.

Oh good to know the dirtbags have a ladder up. I’m going to go take it down.

Sorry, comment time is over.
