West Seattle coyotes: Heard but not (yet) seen

Just out of the WSB inbox from Bob:

I just wanted to let you know the coyotes in Schmitz Park have very vocal the past two nights. We have not seen them yet but our dog has been on alert in the back yard. You might want to let the neighbors know to watch their cats and small pets.

We share coyote reports when we get them, not to be alarmist, but because not everyone realizes they live among us, and if you realize that they do, you have a better chance of taking measures to ensure we and they stay a healthy distance apart. This info from the state can help.

Can confirm. Woke up to a couple of them howling in the ravine two nights ago.

We saw one yesterday evening running up Spokane into Schmitz park. My 6 year old loved it, and I agree it was pretty great to see. Needless to say, we were sure to bring the family cat in.

Heard ’em, and seen ’em. Coyotes love to eat cats (or anything else for that matter!) I grew up in the country, so they don’t bother me a bit!

alkiswimmer…why yes they do (eat any & everything) and I keep telling my neighbors who let their cats roam all day and night that there are coyotes and all they say to me is “I don’t like having a litter box” GEEZ WHATEVER :>(

Coyotes howling mornings and evenings noticeably everyday since Friday. Hard to say how many but definitely atleast five howling at the same time. We’re on the south end of the park.

Sorry, comment time is over.
