UPDATE: Rescue response for crash on Lincoln Park Way

7:29 PM: Big Seattle Fire/Police response just starting to arrive at a reported rollover in the 7000 block of Lincoln Park Way.

7:42 PM: The emergency response is just east of the Murray CSO Project. Traffic is getting through but please avoid the area – we’re on the side of the road half a block east and people are speeding downhill, only seeing the flashing lights when they’re almost to the scene. The car we’re seeing is upright; we’re trying to find out more about why it was a rescue response.

7:49 PM: The crash involved two cars; the one you see in our photo was tipped on its side, but bystanders managed to get it uprighted before emergency crews arrived, we’re told. No serious injuries.

8:05 PM: SFD had already left the scene before we did, and police were starting to clear, so it’s OK to use Lincoln Park Way – but slowly.

    I live on this block and cars drive way too fast! I would like to know what can be done to calm traffic on Lincoln Park Way approaching Beach Drive.

      One suggestion: Lincoln Park Way, I believe, is in the area covered by the Morgan Community Association. Your nearest community council is a great place to go to at least find out if the problem has been addressed before or if they’d be willing to work with you to figure out how to start the process. MoCA’s next quarterly meeting is coming up – July 15th, 7 pm, at The Kenney. You can also contact MoCA officers through an address I’m sure you’ll find at http://www.morganjunction.org – Or you can approach SDOT directly. – TR

    @FP: speed humps

    People do drive fast here. Almost everyday, pulling out from my apartment consists of trying not to get hit by someone who uses it as a speedway.

    I live north of this street which is one of my walking routes. I agree with FP many drivers speed on this cramped street. Parked cars line the curbs which leaves a narrow passageway for two cars going opposite directions. Also drivers speed up 48th ave sw from the Lincoln Park/Beach Dr/48th ave sw intersection. When I say speed, I estimate some drivers going 40/45mph in the 30mph zone.

    This is another great argument for speed radar cameras. They’re always on duty, and when people realize that getting speeding tickets in a certain area is a near-certainty, rather than a remote possibility, they will either change their ways, go elsewhere, or fill the City coffers.

    Seattlite, haven’t you read the plan for Admiral Way and other streets, SDOT believes that narrowing the streets will reduce speeding (and they cite a study about how traffic yields to pedestrians in painted crosswalks if the prevailing road speed is slower). Sure, you could ask for enforcement, but if they re-jigger the roads they’ll make them even more narrow.

    They need a roundabout at the foot of the hill and a speedbump.

    With the construction it’s a nightmare here.

    100% agreed on the traffic circle. That intersection at the bottom of the hill desperately needs one.

    Cars are fast on that street? I travel it frequently wouldn’t ever have considered Lincoln Park Way a street with a speed problem. I’m not trying to stir up a ‘he said she said’, but I’m just surprised, as I’d never think of that street as fast. Most cars I’m behind there are trying to squeeze between the construction worker’s cars and the other traffic flow and only doing 20ish. Genesee is fast at times (wide and clear sight lines), Beach Drive past Jacobson can be fast at times (even with speed bumps), so I’m surprised. Just sayin’.

    Round abouts are a joke. I recently wrote to SDOT (and also cc’d wsb with no response??) About one in arbor heights where drivers consistently make left turns without going around the circle. I had 5 near miss head on collisions in a month as it is a blind corner when doing so. SDOT initial response was sorry no money don’t care. Most of the offending drivers live in the neighborhood. So long story short: all the laws and/or calming devices can not change rude selfish inconsiderate drivers.

    I agree that cars speed down 47th to Lincoln way at excessive speeds……I have to use extreme caution pulling out of my building…….speed bumps long overdue especially with retirement community close by……and kids coming and going to the park

Sorry, comment time is over.
