From the ‘in case you wondered too’ file: Commercial shoot in Gatewood today

In case you pass by that truck and several others accompanying a video/film crew on the west side of California SW, north of SW Thistle, sometime today and wonder what’s up … they’re shooting a commercial for Wave Broadband. The crew plans to be on site until around 6 pm. (Side note, since this made us wonder, being fairly close to this location: According to Wave’s website, the service is not available in the zip code where the shoot’s happening. But they’re expanding; we’re asking their HQ, which is in Kirkland, if West Seattle is in their future.)

ADDED: Turns out the company making the commercial, Spin Creative, is “headquartered on Harbor Island at the Harbor Marina Corporate Center,” per a note we received later. They also sent a link to this Flickr gallery of “behind the scenes” photos.

Of note to all of us with concerns over development of so many box houses,is that this is the style of house and lifestyle that this company wishes to convey.

Like it or not, the emergence of the modern Seattle box, has supplanted the McMansions of the last boom and the faux craftsmen of the one before that to become the house style of this generation.

A shooting location is little to no indication of an intended service area. Most likely, logistics, availability and the aesthetic of the home they are shooting in were the driving factors. There is a particular Korean Director that loves shooting in Seattle, but there is little chance of the products he is shooting for will ever show up on the shelves of any Seattle store…

MJC, I know, but thought it was an interesting side note, particularly since there is ongoing discontent with at least the most prominent of the existing service providers (starts with a C, or is it an I …) and any mention of another one tends to bring “are they coming here?” questions, so I thought I’d pre-emptively check … TR

Appreciate your checking in on Wave, although they probably keep their plans as unmapped as CenturyLink’s fiber deployment.

A side note, I’m learning that CL’s fiber installers can arbitrarily reschedule your install for a week later on the morning of an appointment and they won’t even call to tell you.

Not sure if Wave could currently offer service to our area even if they wanted to. I believe they are the same type of service provider as Comcast, which means other similar providers cannot service the area. This is why you don’t see Comcast compete against someone like Time Warner Cable or Charter in really any markets. I’m a little beyond my depth, so I might be mistaken, but my point is that even if Wave wanted to offer services, they might not be able to.

Regarding CenturyLink, they are a different type of Broadband service provider, which is why they can/do compete with Comcast…

Wave recently acquired the service provider ReallyFast.net which is available at a few of the newer apartment buildings throughout West Seattle.

    SC,

Indeed they did. Also, I note no shortage of providers available in my building. I hope this means that franchise exclusivity is dead in the broadband market here.

Sorry, comment time is over.
