4730 California apartments: Welcoming a new WSB sponsor

Today we’re welcoming 4730 California, new apartments in the heart of the West Seattle Junction, as a new WSB sponsor. Here’s what they’d like you to know:

Experience 4730 California apartments. Next to amazing restaurants, bars, shops, transit connections, yet mostly undiscovered by outsiders. 4730 California is the quintessential West Seattle address. It’s right smack dab in the heart of West Seattle. Yet at just 88 apartments, it is boutique enough to allow individual passions and living tastes to come through.

What ‘best in West’ means:

*Best Seattle is the sunset over the Olympics from your loveseat
*Best Seattle is sleeping in and grabbing a Low Rider at Easy Street
*Best Seattle is a stroll through Lincoln Park with Fido in tow
*Best Seattle is a year-round farmers’ market darn near in your back yard
*Best Seattle is Talarico’s New York-style slice as big as your head
*Best Seattle is a fat burger and beer from Elliott Bay Brewing

4730 California is available by appointment for tours Mondays-Fridays, 10 am-5 pm. The building is “very pet-friendly” and has special events such as wine tastings hosted by Bin 41 every third Thursday. And they’ve signed on as a major sponsor of this year’s West Seattle Summer Fest. Find out more at 4730ca.com.

We thank 4730 California apartments for sponsoring independent, community-collaborative neighborhood news via WSB; find our current sponsor team listed in directory format here, and find info on joining the team by going here.

best in west means no corp mega giants in our Junction

Glad to see the owners are supporting WS Blog, and West Fest. Last summer during all the construction I was thinking it a missed opportunity for these companies to not sponsor our parade and street festival. Why should community organizers scramble for sponsors when construction crews, tearing up the street and blocking the sidewalks, could win over a few hearts with positive community participation? Or at least a kind, “sorry for the mess and noise, folks”? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-development in the Junction per se, I would just love to see more of such community sponsorship and collaborations.

I toured this building as part of the Chamber of
Commerce of West Seattle get together about a week ago. The building and layout is impressive. Management responsive and appear very caring. It’s certainly worth a visit; and if you or folks you know need a place to rent, I would definitely check out this set of apartment homes.

Perfect location as they are in the middle of all West Seattle activity but off California Ave so quieter. Great views from roof top. And……, I am not associated with them! I just think this is a great place to call home if you need a rental.

Starting price for studios is $1500.

    • WSB May 20, 2015 (12:15 am)

I was looking around earlier out of curiosity. $1075 via the “homes” tab on the building’s own website. For comparison, $200 more than this micro-unit a few miles east. – TR

Micro-unit comparisons lose relevance when you don’t factor in the cost of utilities and price per square foot.

    • WSB May 20, 2015 (12:31 am)

Prospective tenants of course have to crunch their numbers. I just mentioned it because Brassy mentioned it and I’d happened to have looked around the website earlier. And since you mention it, the 4730 studio(s?) listed at $1075 are 524sf and the $875 Footprint unit(s?) is 215sf. I’m too tired to even break out the laptop calculator, much less figure out utilities, but there it is.

And, as I understand it, parking is in addition to the rent.

  • Wes C. Addle May 20, 2015 (7:54 am)

The Spruce is the place that has $1400 350sf studios. Yikes. I feel lucky to have a large place in WS for less than $1500 right now.

Brand new and better price than what the new buyers of my friends’ 1960 never been updated duplex are asking of the 9 year tenants they just bought. Hope this building stays somewhat reasonable and doesn’t sell to new owners within a few years like some of the other new buildings down the street.

The views, especially from the roof deck are beautiful. Clearly their ad writer doesn’t live in or understand West Seattle. The “walking tour with Fido”, mentions ball and squirrel chasing at Fairmount Park (no off leash dogs on school property) and getting sand in fur at Lincoln Park (no dogs on beach). Kinda funny, in a sad way.

me on 28th, when Elan41 (old Jefferson Square) was first advertising on Craigslist, their copy said that they were within walking distance of all these great restaurants like Tallericos (yes, spelled that way) and A Terrible Beauty (which had been closed like 9 months at that point). They try so hard to pretend they are neighborhood insiders, but just make themselves look foolish.

The West Seattle Y thanks the folks at the Wolff Development Company and 4730 California for their support of our building expansion fund.
In addition to a direct gift to the Y’s Campaign, they also hosted members from Junction Businesses and the West Seattle Chamber to hear about the new Y effort.
As we toured the apartments, many guests commented on the high level of finish, great location and spectacular rooftop view!
It’s great that some of our newest neighbors in West Seattle are making these investments in the community.

and re Sue’s comment on Elan41 (old Jefferson Square); Sue and I were in communications re this “new” project at that time, and both of us searching their Craig’s list ads; Elan41 (old Jefferson Square)was falsely advertising as “brand new”, which is a lie; when was Jefferson Square built? pretty sure it was before I moved to WS in 2000

$1075 for a studio here is most likely the MFTE income qualified price, and most likely no longer available
    ~
I toured Spruce this week; the MFTE price is $1020 on their 350sf studios (I would call that a micro-studio; but twice the size of one of the Footprint micro-housing pods); so yes, compared to the apodments, this is a great deal; and for that reason, ALL GONE already; at this price, with all the amenities, they were scooped up immediately
    ~
oh, and yes, most of these projects are charging $100 per parking space
    ~
haven’t gotten down to 4730 California for a tour yet; I better get on that soon

Diane, J Square was a teenager when you moved to West Seattle; it opened up in 1987.

    .

I remember people commenting on the outrageous rent back then, maybe something like $6/$700.00 per month?

    .

    Mike

  • Sue May 20, 2015 (1:55 pm)

Diane, looking online, it looks like Jefferson Square might’ve been built in 1987.

  • miws May 20, 2015 (1:57 pm)

Oh, and I obtained this info back then at the old-fashioned comment/chat style site; Poggie Tavern.

    :-)

$1075 is listed on the City of Seattle Office of Housing MFTE (Multifamily Tax Exemption) 2015 Income & Rent Limits, as the rent limit for 60% AMI (percent of Area Median Income) for a 1 bedroom; and this is required to include basic utilities; the income limit for 60% AMI is $37,860 for 1 person and $43,020 for 2 persons; “effective 04/01/2015”
    ~
the Spruce studios are 350-403sf; so if the unit you saw listed at $1075 is 524sf, perhaps that was really a one bedroom?

  • Diane May 20, 2015 (2:10 pm)

Footprint micro-housing continues to falsely advertise their teensy tiny units as “studio apartments”; this is listed now for rent at $1035 for 169sf “Micro Studio”; in this one you have to climb up a ladder to your bed

so absolutely, if you can get on the list for a MFTE studio at any of the big apt projects, you can get all the amenities, and twice as big REAL apt, for less than this apodment

  • Peter May 20, 2015 (6:02 pm)

Advice for all the commenters outraged by the existence of studio apartments: don’t rent one. Duh.

Sorry, comment time is over.
