West Seattle coyotes: Gatewood, Puget Ridge sightings

GATEWOOD REPORT #1: Mickey shared photos of coyote sightings this week in the Orchard Street Ravine (map) area, including the one above.

GATEWOOD REPORT #2: Not far from there, at 36th/Myrtle (map), Eugene reports: “3 pm today. Walking up Myrtle street in broad daylight. Maybe it’s not news anymore. But it looked like a chupacabra with fur so I thought I’d mention it.”

PUGET RIDGE: Forwarded from a neighborhood list, a sighting at midmorning today near 21st/Dawson (map).

REMINDER: The best thing you can do if/when you see a coyote is, scare it away – “hazing,” as wildlife advocates put it, explained here. (WSB coyote coverage is archived here.)

Good use for those old noise makers from Halloween. Just be annoying to them and remind your kids those are not domestic dogs and they wont play with you.

One of my neighbors saw one running down her street in Fauntlee Hills. On Concord.

Reminder…keep the PETS inside or on a short leash when you’re out walking them.
Spring is here, mating season ??? coyote pups to come which means Mom and Dad will be hunting for food for their kids.

I saw one dragging an ACME crate down Delridge.

Looks like the poor mangy coyote seen in Fauntleroy-Arbor Heights. One was in my yard, passing thru, midday a week ago. It ran off as soon as I oped the door and clapped my hands. Mange is a miserable condition.

mrs Marty I agree I moaned in pain when I saw the mange on this poor thing, it also looks like it has a broken front leg? The poor thing I feel sorry for these city born animals. It use to be heavily forrested in West Seattle and they had shelter, smaller critters for meals, now it is concrete and garbage cans, or feral cats!

I saw a coyote the other day on I-35. It was doing at least 50 and weaving in and out of traffic in that ACME truck.

As bleak and bland as things have become in West Seattle the past few years, the humor on this article has made my day. Nice change of pace.

I saw one this afternoon about 3pm heading south on 36th then he took a right on Raymond and went down the hill. Looked like a young coyote. I wonder if that loud thunder clap and dark sky that happened before I saw the coyote had anything to do with him running around in the afternoon?

Poor little guy doesn’t look to good. I feel sorry for all animals trying to live in the world we created.

This coyote is a regular visitor in our garden, I recognize it. It is a female and has an open wound on her right hind leg (looks like a bite from a dog or another coyote). Last week it devoured a squirrel in our back yard and had a nap before moving on. Poor thing is very sick with mange or some other condition, but this is the third year I have been seeing her so she is a survivor.

I know everyone dislikes the coyotes but can’t Animal Control or some other agency put the animal out of its misery, it’s so sad seeing any animal in pain or suffering from an illness?

Sorry, comment time is over.
