VIDEO: Suspect arrested after South Delridge/White Center search with police, deputies, helicopter

(Aerial/infrared video of last 7 minutes of the search, ending with arrest)

12:56 AM: Thanks for the texts – a search that’s under way seems to be spanning both Seattle Police and King County Sheriff’s Office jurisdictions, with locations including the 26th/Roxbury vicinity. Working to find out what/who they’re looking for.

1:05 AM: Per scanner, deputies have taken a suspect into custody; at some point this included pursuit of a vehicle that the suspect ditched.

1:23 AM: Guardian One has explained via Twitter what it was about:

3:51 AM: Just added atop the story, Guardian One’s video of the last 7 minutes of the search, as they spotted the suspect hiding in the 9600 block of 24th SW and talked the ground officers (including a K-9 team) in.

P.S. Guardian One’s pilot is the guest at next Tuesday’s meeting of the West Seattle Block Watch Captains’ Network – bring your questions – 6:30 pm at the SPD Southwest Precinct (Delridge/Webster).

Thanks WSB. It’s keeping me up so knew I could check here to see what was up. I’m near 37th and Cloverdale. Feels like it is right over us.

I live on the corner of 27th and Roxbury, blue and red lights drowning out my living room….helicopter over my building…looks like 10+ cop cars….wtf is going on out there?? Looking scary.

    • WSB April 26, 2015 (1:01 am)

Deputies were pursuing a vehicle for some reason. They’re looking for whoever was in that car.

I live closer to Highland Park but I can hear the helicopter closely and a number of police sirens. Sounds serious.

    • WSB April 26, 2015 (1:10 am)

You’re likely hearing sirens from a different call. Somebody requiring medical assistance at the bus stop by Westwood. As noted above, somebody’s been taken into custody in connection with this. Still don’t know what the original alleged crime was, but we’ll eventually get at least a hint.

I’m on 21st & roxbury, a loud screeching sound woke me up followed by someone running through my gravel driveway. I looked our the window and saw a black male wearing a hoody running thru my property! Police pursued closely after. Glad to hear they caught the suspect.

    • WSB April 26, 2015 (1:25 am)

Just added the upshot from Guardian One. Should have quieted down now – the search fanned out over at least several blocks from 26th/Rox; I believe 21st is where they said the suspect ditched a vehicle. – TR

… and one more addition, as they do sometimes, Guardian One has posted video, picking it up while over the 9600 block of 24th SW, where its infrared equipment picked up someone trying to hide – TR

So I’ve been taking a poll. every time I meet someone new who lives in different neighborhood in the city I ask them if they get the Guardian One Helicopter flying over with the same frequency as Westwood, Highland Park, White Center, etc.. I have yet to meet someone who even knows there IS a Guardian One Helicopter. but the first thing they all say is that it sounds like an LA type police state war zone…. funny thats exactly what I’ve been saying all along.
But go ahead and keep justifying there excessive presence here like its normal. FYI ITS NOT!

Wow- fascinating video- night vision technology is amazing.
Thanks to SPD- KCSO- K-9 & Guardian One!

  • LL April 26, 2015 (6:56 am)

You can run but you can’t hide! What a cool video! Great perspective on how clearly Guardian One can see via infrared equipment.

  • evergreen April 26, 2015 (7:59 am)

Loving this! Officers are kicking butt, it’s really comforting to know that the criminals are being swept from the neighborhood.

  • AmandaKH April 26, 2015 (8:51 am)

Wow, I must have been really tired because I slept right through the action! Glad they caught the guy.

  • Alki resident April 26, 2015 (9:46 am)

I have no idea how I missed this. I was sound asleep clearly. Im just up in Arbor Heights. This running into peoples yards etc. is nerve wracking to me. Glad they got him.

Amazing video…basically if you hear a helicopter your goose is cooked…just hold up your hands and wait.

  • heather April 26, 2015 (3:41 pm)

Wow. That’s really bizarre to watch… esp the guy crawling… creepy.

  • Ken April 26, 2015 (6:18 pm)

Great video! Question though – how can the pilot be so accurate on the house address numbers, let alone the streets, when flying several hundred feet up at the night?

  • ChefJoe April 26, 2015 (7:42 pm)

Ken, check out the enlarged overlay in the picture here. Augmented reality (like a police helicopter version of google glass).

Now I’m off to check if Airwolf is on Netflix.

I imagine we’re not far away from a time in which drones will be used to provide the same guidance to officers on foot. With some of the prior debates in the community about use of drones, a situation like this seems appropriate to me.

    Nice Job!

I love to see the bad guys get caught. Nice job Seattle PD!

  • sam-c April 27, 2015 (2:57 pm)

that video is so cool. so weird to watch though, it seemed like he gave out the address for the suspect, but it seemed like forever before anyone showed up… and the person walking down the street at 4:25 ish. unaware of what is going on.

  • FionaEnzo April 29, 2015 (8:11 am)

Thanks KCSO-SPD. Have had two pursued criminals run through my yard. Very reassuring to see this pursuit as you never know if the individual will force entry to a home. Must be very difficult for officers in the dark dealing with tall fences and heavy brush.

Sorry, comment time is over.
